Progress on blood donations for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities

In 2022, Canadian Blood Services replaced longstanding restrictions based on sexual orientation with screening questions focused on sexual behaviour — a major shift aimed at reducing stigma and ensuring a safe blood supply. This change impacted many 2SLGBTQIA+ people, including gay, bisexual, and queer men, and some trans and non-binary individuals. In 2024, CBS issued a formal apology acknowledging the harm caused by past policies.

Today, CBS is working to rebuild trust with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and employees by listening, engaging meaningfully, and transforming its internal culture. This work shows how organizations can take concrete, authentic steps to repair relationships and center inclusion in their mission.

Building the evidence base about economic, health and social inequities faced by LGBTQ2S-Plus individuals in Canada

The reports present findings from the project Building the evidence base about economic, health, and social inequities faced by LGBTQ2S+ individuals in Canada. The study has found persistent earnings gaps and other inequities experienced by lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals (LGB) in comparison with heterosexual men; outcomes for bisexual-identified people were consistently the poorest. Ongoing data gaps in Canada limit our understanding of the full LGBTQ2S+ community.
