What Does THRIVE Mean to Me in a Leadership Capacity for Managers and Why It’s More Important Than Ever in DEI

Templeton

Templeton Sawyer (he/him), our Leadership Programs Coordinator

For me, THRIVE represents a transformative opportunity, both personally and professionally. As a leader, THRIVE isn’t just a program—it’s a mindset rooted in leadership development, inclusive workplace culture, and empowerment, especially for Two-Spirit, queer, and trans leaders. In today’s dynamic business landscape, fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) has become more than just a buzzword; it’s a strategic priority that fuels workplace diversity, innovation, and organizational growth.

The Leadership Potential of THRIVE

THRIVE offers a unique space for leadership development, centering the lived experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. As a manager, engaging with these experiences helps me cultivate authentic leadership and allyship in the workplace, which are essential for building trust, collaboration, and success.

Through THRIVE, I’ve learned how 2SLGBTQIA+ leaders navigate challenges, how to be a stronger advocate for marginalized communities, and how to foster allyship that drives systemic change. This program provides actionable tools for managers seeking to create an inclusive workplace culture that supports both employees and organizational goals.

The Importance of DEI in Leadership Today

In today’s business world, organizations face increasing accountability for their DEI commitments. As a leader, I view it as my responsibility to foster an environment where all employees—particularly those from marginalized communities—can feel safe, valued, and empowered to succeed. Programs like THRIVE directly address the need for diverse and innovative leadership capable of navigating the complexities of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Prioritizing DEI in leadership doesn’t just benefit marginalized individuals; it also leads to improved decision-making, enhanced innovation, and stronger employee retention. Diverse leadership teams bring fresh perspectives that are critical for navigating global markets and addressing the needs of a multifaceted workforce.

THRIVE equips leaders like me with the skills and mindset to not only support their teams but also to drive lasting systemic change. It is an essential resource for managers who want to lead with purpose and foster a thriving, inclusive workplace culture.
