YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka

Home / YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka

The first Canadian YMCA was founded in 1851 in Montreal. Since that day, YMCAs across the country have proudly been serving people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities in Canada. Throughout YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, vital programs and services continue to be delivered over 170 years later. Our mission, our vision and values reflect the aspirations of the communities we serve and the rich history and service of the YMCA over the past 170 years in Canada. From Alliston to Parry Sound, Collingwood to Gravenhurst, and everywhere in between, the communities we are in are each a distinct part of who we are and what we achieve. Whether you are looking to improve your fitness, find high-quality licensed child care, memorable camp experiences for your family or children, or looking for support as a newcomer to Canada, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is here to help.
The YMCA Mission
What is our purpose? A community-building charity that connects people to each other and to experiences designed to build health and strength, skills and confidence, and opportunities for exploration and growth.
The YMCA Vision
What do we want to achieve? Vibrant and connected communities where everyone belongs.
The YMCA Values
What guides our decision-making?

Kindness - We are friendly, caring, and committed to cultivating relationships built on compassion.
Integrity - We are honest, trustworthy, and take responsibility for our decisions and actions.
Inclusiveness - We embrace diversity and strive to create places, programs, and experiences where everyone belongs.
Respect - We believe in each other – our strengths, perspectives, and passions.
Optimism - We approach things with an open mind, an emphasis on happiness, and are inspired by the potential of all people.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
At the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, we are unwavering in our commitment to creating a workplace and community where diversity is celebrated, equity is championed, inclusion is the norm, and everyone truly feels a sense of belonging. We understand that these are not merely checkboxes to tick, but essential values that guide our culture, innovation, and advancement.

Diversity: We recognize that diversity is the wellspring of fresh ideas, differing perspectives, and the seeds of progress. We actively seek to embrace the richness of diversity by ensuring that our workforce, leadership, and partnerships reflect a wide spectrum of backgrounds, experiences, and identities. We firmly believe that by cultivating a diverse community, we tap into a well of untapped potential, allowing us to thrive and evolve.

Equity: Equity is the cornerstone upon which we build a fair and just environment. We are committed to removing barriers and advantages to that inclusion and diversity are achievable for everyone. Er strive to ensure that every individual, regardless of their background, has access to the same resources, support, and chances for growth.

Inclusion: Inclusion is not just a word; it's a practice. It means that every voice is heard, and every perspective is valued. We create an inclusive environment where every member of our community feels not just welcomed but valued, respected, and heard. We actively foster a culture where different ideas and viewpoints are not only tolerated but encouraged. This inclusivity fosters creativity, innovation, and a sense of belonging.

Belonging: True belonging is the result of diversity, equity and inclusion. We want every person in our Association and within our broader community to feel their authentic self is valued and understood. We celebrate individuality and recognize that fostering a sense of belonging is vital for morale, engagement, and personal growth.

To achieve these commitments, we embrace our responsibility to implement the DEIB strategy, adapt and adopt our policies and practices, collaborate and innovate in pursuit of equity, monitor our results and reflect on our progress and keep learning and listening as we work alongside communities. We hold ourselves accountable for promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and we encourage open dialogues about these vital topics. This commitment is not just an aspiration; it is a promise we renew daily to build a stronger, more united, and more vibrant YMCA. Together, we're creating a brighter future where everyone has a chance to shine and belong.

Please hold us accountable.

Vision for the Future
We are dedicated to fostering brave spaces of acceptance and inclusivity for every person who connects with the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.

We envision a community where mental and physical health goals, equity, and diversity are celebrated by actively taking steps to create a sense of belonging.

As we move forward, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is committed to acknowledging the positive impact that diversity and inclusion has in our overall wellness and ability to thrive.
