Concordia University

Home / Concordia University

As a next-generation university, we reimagine the future of higher education. Concordia’s innovative approach to experiential learning and cross-functional research benefits our 50,000 students. Concordia is the top-ranked university in Canada under 50, located in vibrant Montreal on the traditional lands of the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation. We strive to be socially responsible and create a more equitable and sustainable world.

Commitment to Diversity

Concordia University’s mission is to be welcoming, engaged and committed to innovation and excellence in education, research, creative activity and community partnerships. It dares to be different and draws on its diversity to transform the individual, strengthen society and enrich the world.

Vision for the Future

Our nine creative strategic directions guide our progress as a next-generation university. They set out our vision for the future and exemplify our daring and transformative approach to some of the most important issues of our time.

"Concordia is honoured to join the Pride at Work Canada network as a Proud Partner.

Our university celebrates diversity in all its forms. In fact, living this value — in our teaching, research and operations — is integral to who we are at Concordia. It’s also critical to serving our students, 23 per cent of whom self-identified as members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in our 2022 equity survey. Concordia must therefore be a workplace that reflects this reality.

Driven by the leadership of 2SLGBTQIA+ students, faculty and staff, Concordia has a long history of striving towards inclusion by investing in numerous programs that serve diverse communities. Members of the Equity Office team, for example, regularly provide consultation, support and programming around 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion in the workplace. Likewise, the recently launched project, Harambec: Reviving the Black Feminist Collective, offers resources for and by Black women and gender-expansive people in the areas of teaching, experiential learning, research, professional development, mentorship and more. We look forward to learning promising practices and exchanging ideas for expanding our programs even further from other members of Pride at Work Canada.

Concordia fully shares Pride at Work Canada’s vision of ensuring “every individual can achieve their full potential at work, regardless of gender expression, gender identity and sexual orientation.” Furthermore, we know that Concordia can only reach its own full potential by ensuring that we’re home to vibrant and engaged 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

The only way we can begin to address today’s most-pressing social, economic and environmental issues is by valuing and drawing upon the unique lived experience and knowledge of each and every Concordian. At Concordia, we know this approach leads to greater creativity in teaching, smarter innovation in research, and ultimately a more just and equitable world."

Graham Carr,
President and Vice-Chancellor
