Empowering 2SLGBTQIA+ Workers in Energy: An Inclusion Toolkit for Workplaces

Creating safer, more inclusive workplaces for 2SLGBTQIA+ workers requires more than good intentions. In energy and related sectors, many workers continue to navigate workplace cultures, facilities, reporting systems, and policies that were never designed with their realities in mind.

This Inclusion Toolkit for Workplaces was developed to help change that. Designed for employers, site leaders, HR/DEI professionals, union representatives, ERG chairs, and workplace champions, this practical toolkit offers clear, actionable resources to advance safety, dignity, and inclusion.

The toolkit pays special attention to field-based, remote, and jobsite contexts, where everyday practices, workplace culture, and physical infrastructure can have a major impact on whether workers feel respected, safe, and able to do their jobs well.

It includes a set of practical tools that organizations can use right away, including: 1) a jobsite inclusion checklist, 2) toolbox talk guides, 3) an inclusive washroom guide with ready-to-use signage, 4) a harassment and discrimination policy checklist, and 5) a guide for establishing an ERG on the jobsite. Together, these resources help organizations identify gaps, support conversations, improve policies, and strengthen accountability.

Small changes can make a significant difference. By taking practical steps to improve workplace conditions, organizations can help build environments where 2SLGBTQIA+ workers are safer, better supported, and more able to thrive.
