Our Communities Are in Crisis

Home / Our Communities Are in Crisis

Across Canada, workplaces are facing an urgent test of their commitment to fairness, dignity, and human rights. As attacks on queer and trans communities intensify, it is critical for employers to reinforce their legal and ethical responsibilities to ensure workplace safety for all employees.

Pride at Work Canada is equipping our network with the tools and strategies necessary to navigate this crisis. On February 13, 2025, we released a statement outlining our approach to meeting these challenges head-on. Read the full statement here.

A Human Rights-Based Approach

The language of traditional “DEI” has become an issue, making it essential to reframe these discussions in the language of human rights. Under Canadian law, all employees have the right to a workplace free from discrimination and harassment. Our role, and yours, is to uphold these rights, not as a matter of corporate values, but as a legal necessity.

How We Are Taking Action

We are working around the clock to provide our Proud Partners with the resources they need to push back against misinformation and ensure safe, affirming workplaces. In the coming days and weeks we will roll out essential tools, including:

  • A messaging toolkit for employers.

How You Can Lead

Your leadership today will define workplace safety for years to come. Here’s how you can take action:

✔ Make your commitment visible: If you are a Proud Partner, download our logo and display it prominently on your website and internal platforms. Updated social media messaging will be available soon.

✔ Show up: Participate in upcoming events like SPARK Toronto on April 30, 2025. Attend our upcoming online events for members to gain insights on how to navigate this moment effectively.

✔ Strengthen your workplace: Align your policies with human rights law. Ensure there are clear reporting mechanisms and accountability measures in place to protect employees from discrimination.

✔ Stay Engaged: Join in discussion with other Proud Partners, employers committed to upholding human rights at work.
