Posting Description

The Erwood lab in Genetics and Genome Biology is a newly established group using precision genome editing to interpret human genetic variation and to develop therapies for rare disease. We are seeking a Research Technologist II to support high-throughput screening and gene editing work, including pooled lentiviral library screens, mammalian cell culture, and next-generation sequencing library preparation.

Here's What You'll Get To Do:

Specific Responsibilities:

• Design, cloning, and production of pooled lentiviral libraries.
• Execution of high-throughput editing and screening experiments in mammalian cell lines
• Amplicon and library preparation for next-generation sequncing
• Maintenance of cell line stocks, plasmid and reagent inventories, and molecular biology workflows shared across the lab

General Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the organization of a project or the laboratory on a daily basis, either alone or with employees performing less complex tasks. 
• Performs a variety of technical assignments under general supervision. Assignments are broadly outlined and frequently require some theoretical insight, the interpretation of empirical data and the ability to find and extract pertinent information from technical literature. Occasionally modifies procedures and designs or creates new procedures. May coordinate and/or direct work of others, order supplies and equipment. Provides continuity and is a source of information on a permanent basis. 
• Considerable responsibility for day-to-day running of lab and/or special projects. 
• May be responsible for procedures performed by fellows, students or employees in the lab.

Job Knowledge:

• Applies technical knowledge and skills to performs moderately complex laboratory procedures and experiments

Problem Solving:

• Exercises moderate independent judgment and decision making using established policies and procedures, to resolve technical problems

Self Management:

• Works under direction of investigator and/or more senior staff. 
• Work may be reviewed to ensure conformity to research objectives.

Leadership:

• Leads self and peers by conduct and example. 
• Follows established guidelines, procedures and standards. 
• May provide functional supervision to lower classified staff

Communication:

• Interacts primarily with immediate supervisor and other technicians within laboratory  Demonstrates excellent competency in written and verbal communications.

Here's What You'll Need:

Education/Experience Required:

• Bachelor of Science degree with a minimum of two years experience.

Assets:

• Prior experience with mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, pooled screening, or next-generation sequencing library preparation is an asset. Experience with basic scripting or sequencing data analysis is welcome but not required
