JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor, Generation Accounting reports to the Manager, Financial Reporting. The position is focused on the financial reporting for Energy Ottawa Inc. [‘Portage Power’]. This includes a number of entities, partnerships and joint ventures as well as consolidation and equity accounting.

Responsibilities include the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, preparation of all supporting documents for financial audits as well as providing assistance with the budget and forecasting activities.  Responsibilities also include preparation of presentations and materials for reporting to the Audit Committee and Board of Directors, as well as providing advice and direction to others on accounting matters specific to this group of activities and issues.

The job holder is a self-organized person with the ability to prioritize their own work and the work of the team.  The role requires an attention to detail, strong analytical skills with the ability to research and collaborate with counterparts.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the financial reporting process and the preparation of external reporting packages, including submissions to the Audit Committee, Board(s) of Directors,  Shareholder and external auditor for Energy Ottawa

  • Prepare complete, accurate and timely separate and consolidated financial statements to help the Corporation meet its financial and statutory reporting requirements

  • Coordinate period-end close process and liaise with auditors

  • Prepare periodic accounting memorandums and reports

  • Prepares and reviews journal entries as required 

  • Prepare financial working papers

  • Performs financial variance analysis and reconciliation of significant financial accounts 

  • Provide input and assistance in preparing applicable sections of the Company’s Annual Report

  • Work with accountants across the Finance division to ensure consistency in financial reporting

  • Prepare budget, forecast,  treasury and tax schedules as required

  • Handle day to day financial issues and actions accordingly

  • Provide assistance with special projects as required, including process documentation and finance and accounting policy development

  • Manage performance and development for staff, provide coaching and guidance as well as assist in decision-making and problem solving

  • Respond to ad-hoc requests for financial information

  • Perform other duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA)

  • Financial reporting experience, with minimum 5 years’ experience supporting a Finance department or auditing financial statements preferred

  • Experience in  financial reporting and IFRS

  • Strong computer skills, proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably G-Suite and MS office suite of products

  • Experience working in an ERP environment (Ex: JD Edwards), and knowledge of Workiva and Hubble would be considered an asset

  • Mid to large accounting firm experience considered an asset 

  • Business writing skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • English essential, both oral and written

  • Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset

This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

This is a management group opportunity. The annual salary range for this position identified below depends on experience, education, and professional designation. The successful candidate will be offered a salary within this range based on their qualifications.

Pay Range Minimum:

$89,420.99

Pay Range Maximum:

$134,130.81
