Position: Senior Technical Advisor

Employment Type: Permanent
 

Compensation Details:

  • Technical Advisory 19: Salaries typically range from $112, 006 to $149, 341 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Location: 

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)

  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa.

  • Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.

Within EDC, Technical Advisory Services (TAS) is a team of experienced engineering professionals with in-depth technical, industry, and business expertise in a variety of key industries. The team works together in bringing skills and knowledge that combine engineering and project management expertise and commercial discipline to our clients. Together, we assess and help mitigate technical, industry, operational, commercial and managerial risks associated with financial services provided by EDC. This includes due diligence services on technical and commercial feasibility of project and investment proposals. Although not exclusively, a considerable proportion of work is in support of structured and project finance transactions. EDC’s Structured and Project Finance group is a significant player in global project and infrastructure finance, having closed over USD 53.3 billion in financings (as of the end of 2025).

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Technical Advisor in the TAS team with expertise in one or more of the areas below. Note that in addition to your primary sector(s), you will have opportunities to expand your knowledge base and support your team members in other sectors as required.

  • Infrastructure

  • Utilities (power and water)

  • Power Generation (renewables and non-renewables)

  • Clean technologies

  • Advanced Manufacturing

  • Resources (forestry and agri-food)

  • Mining and metals

 

As the Senior Technical Advisor, you will report to the Managing Principal and deliver in-house consulting services, providing guidance and advice to lending, insurance and equity underwriting groups from deal origination through to signing, monitoring, and asset management. Your work will result in enhanced and better-informed negotiations, structuring and decision making with respect to the financial transactions undertaken by EDC.

 

What you will be doing:

 

As the Senior Technical Advisor, you will report to the Managing Principal and deliver in-house consulting services, providing guidance and advice to lending, insurance and equity underwriting groups from deal origination through to signing, monitoring, and asset management. Your work will result in enhanced and better-informed negotiations, structuring and decision making with respect to the financial transactions undertaken by EDC.

 

Skills & Competencies 

  • Industry insight leading to the ability to understand and interpret the needs of internal and external clients.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to exercise sound technical and business judgement, often with limited information.

  • Ability to lead challenging or high impact transaction assessments associated with both established and early-stage companies.

  • Ability to address key issues with complex structures that may present challenging circumstances.

  • Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines in a multi-project environment.

  • Ability to discern, distill, and concisely and clearly communicate key issues in complex business transactions and provide advice based on client needs. 

What we are looking for:

  • University degree in Engineering

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant business experience in a technical, consulting, project management or other industry role pertaining to sectors specified.

  • Accreditation as a Licensed Professional Engineer, or eligibility for licensure in Canada. 

  • Willing and able to travel within Canada and internationally for site visits or meetings, as needed.

  • Degree, diploma or training in Business, Finance or related discipline.

  • Bilingualism in both official languages (English and French).

 

Eligibility:
