Summary

Corporate Services is at the centre of the action, providing the support that enables Bell’s industry leadership. The Corporate Responsibility & Environment team aims at minimizing risk and creating business value by managing environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. We are the governance team responsible to ensure legal compliance, reduce business risks, set internal standards and targets, measure and report our performance, work with business units to reduce our environmental footprint and maintain our ISO 14001 and 50001 certifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of non hazardous and hazardous waste generated in the course of Company’s operations
  • Transition current waste programs to adopt a circular economy model
  • Remain up to date with municipal, provincial and federal regulations, update program guidelines and procedures accordingly and ensure compliance by all operations across the network
  • Establish KPI’s to monitor and measure program progress and waste recovery for the Company
  • Maintain and update data related to programs for reporting purposes such as Bell’s annual report and internal updates to committees and the board
  • Support internal and external audits on programs under their responsibility, and support operations with compliance and regulatory requests
  • Drive efficiency by identifying opportunities to improve processes across the network; 
  • The specialist will also assume the role of “Specialist on Duty” to respond to environmental incidents (7/7 and 24/24) on a weekly rotational basis with other specialists
  • Help maintain Bell’s Environmental Management System (EMS), which is ISO 14001 certified, by monitoring annual tasks assigned to operations, supporting operations as needed with requests, completing gap analyses, compliance reviews, monitoring of corrective actions and developing annual business plans
  • Ensure successful completion of the annual environmental action plan related to issues under his/her responsibility

Critical Qualifications

  • Spoken and written fluency in English and French
  • University degree in a field relevant to the position together with graduate-level education in a related field or a master’s degree in environmental science
  • Practical knowledge of Canada’s environmental legal framework (federal, provincial and municipal), including an understanding of waste management standards and regulations
  • Experience in non-hazardous and hazardous waste management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze data
  • Well organized and thorough in performing tasks
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaborate with peers
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of tools
  • Experience in telecommunications;
  • Experience with ISO frameworks.
