The Senior Regulatory Manager is responsible for providing regulatory leadership and strategic direction for project teams, involving development and implementation of regulatory strategies that deliver timely, high-quality registrations and labels for both biological and conventional pesticides, biostimulants, and fertilizers in Canada. This role serves as the primary regulatory contact for assigned active ingredients and products, engaging directly with federal agencies (PMRA/PRD and CFIA) to enable rapid growth of Syngenta’s biological portfolio, in addition to leading conventional pesticide activities as required.
Accountabilities:
- Drive high quality, timely and accurate submissions to PMRA/PRD and CFIA for new and existing biological, bio stimulants and conventional products.
- Develop, scope and execute CDN registration strategies for assigned active ingredients (conventional and biologicals) and formulated products, including data requirement determination, from early development through commercialization. Proactively identify risks and timelines that inform business decisions.
- Deliver license to sell for new products and uses in Canada that are fit for purpose and with a label that meets grower needs while being protective of human health and the environment. Develop and manage regulatory product labels in partnership with biology, regulatory stewardship and product leads, ensuring legal compliance and maintaining license to sell.
- Maintain existing registrations and defend existing technologies through re-evaluations and special review, manage label amendments, and execute product life cycle management strategies including new crop and use expansions for assigned pesticides, biocontrols, biostimulants, and fertilizers.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with PMRA/PRD, CFIA and industry associations; advocate for the best possible regulatory outcomes.
- Actively manage project timelines and milestones, align priorities, coordinate with peers to ensure regulatory commitments are met, proactively escalate issues to leadership.
- Partner with other teams within R&D, as well as Commercial teams to integrate regulatory strategy into product development plans and business cases.
Required:
- A minimum of a Bachelors degree, preferably in chemistry, biology, agronomy and/or related field. Masters degree is highly preferred.
- A Minimum of 7 years of experience in Crop Protection Regulatory Affairs.
- Experience with pesticide and biological products regulatory requirements, including direct submission experience with PMRA/PRD and CFIA’s Fertilizer Safety section.
- Knowledge of agricultural production and crop protection practices.
- Domestic and/or US Travel may be required up to 5 times a year.
- Must be eligible to work in Canada.
Desired:
- Familiarity with import permitting processes for microbial products is preferred.
- Experience working within a stage-gate product development process is an advantage.
- Background in continuous improvement initiatives and regulatory data management is desirable.
- Ability to produce clear, technically accurate submissions, label copy, and agency correspondence.
- Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable strategies that support business objectives.
- Ability to Interpret biological, toxicological, ecotoxicological, and environmental fate data in a regulatory context. Ability to communicate scientific concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to identify emerging regulatory issues and trends and communicate impact and solutions to relevant groups.
Salary for this position ranges between CAD 111,000 - 159,000 annually.
