Job Description

What is the opportunity?

In this role, you will be responsible for the deliverables and implementation of Enhancements and Platform stabilization changes to the Avion Platform. You will quickly learn the business objectives and project concepts and take the team and the deliverables through to successful completion. You will develop the detailed work packages, schedules, budgets, identify the necessary resources and provide regular updates and communications to stakeholders/sponsors. You will also oversee and manage each project deliverable including vendor related deliverables for quality and completion.

What will you do?

  • Facilitate joint planning with the business sponsor in the early stages of project formation.

  • Manage each project’s scope and timeline

  • Coordinate sprints, retrospective meetings and daily stand-ups

  • Coach team members in Agile frameworks

  • Facilitate internal communication and effective collaboration

  • Be the point of contact for external communications (e.g. from customers or stakeholders)

  • Work with product owners to handle backlogs and new requests

  • Resolve conflicts and remove obstacles that occur

  • Help teams implement changes effectively

  • Ensure deliverables are up to quality standards at the end of each sprint

  • Guide development teams to higher scrum maturity

  • Help build a productive environment where team members ‘own’ the product and enjoy working on it

  • Facilitate schedule and cost forecasting.

  • Create and track project metrics. Identify trends and risks.

  • Provide recommendations on project scope by assessing requirements changes, determining and conveying impact on budget, time and risk.

  • Promote innovative or improved methods to get the work done and implement best practices.

  • Work with external vendors and third parties (consultants, off shoring, outsourcing) and manage the relationships at the project level.

  • Perform root-cause analysis, separating symptoms from causes, and work with appropriate teams/individuals to improve the current state, as required.

  • Strong knowledge of Project Management and PMO methodology.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Previous RBC or Financial Services experience would be an asset.

  • Managing teams of 15+ people within a matrix environment.

  • Experience managing multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.

  • Solid experience mentoring and guiding teams with project methodology (Waterfall, Iterative and/or Agile).

  • Ability to adapt and adequately apply experience to new situations

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills required to manage communications to all stakeholders.

  • Advanced understanding of IT principals, including lifecycle planning, estimating and architecture
