It is made up of all key disciplines: architecture, structural, mechanical, process, electrical, instrumentation, controls, civil, environmental, geotechnical, and project management. Your Opportunity

As a senior Mechanical Engineer you will provide junior staff oversight, guidance and direction on tasks on a variety of projects, and as a team member of a larger organization work with more senior staff and management to improve our services and team culture. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices. Project management and team coordination will be an integral part of your daily routine.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of specific project proposals and resulting contracts, project implementation plans, resource planning, quality control and design review, project team review and coordination, client and financial management.
  • Will oversee engineering and design services for industrial and manufacturing clients, including machine design, automation, and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Mechanical engineering - designs including the completion of code reviews, preparation of the basis of design, calculations, mark-up of drawings, specification preparation, field investigations, construction / fabrication estimating, and site inspections, and other such design tasks as required.
  • Will perform Project Manager duties as needed.
  • Some travel to site locations or other Stantec offices will be required.
  • Perform Finite Element Analyses using knowledge of relevant software programs.
  • Work with other project managers, team leaders, and management to fulfil the business goals of the Business Centre.
  • Perform 3D CAD modeling and drafting of work product.
  • Work with contractors and client representatives to manage project activities at client’s facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Registered P.Eng in the province of Nova Scotia, or other province(s), required.
  • Must have strong Mechanical Engineering skills in design for industrial and manufacturing facilities, such as machine design, automation, fabrication, and manufacturing concepts.
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD and 3D mechanical programs; Prefer experience with SolidWorks and/or Inventor.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing concepts.
  • Understanding of Finite Element Analysis and relevant software programs. Experience with Finite Element Analysis is an asset.
  • Project management experience is required.
  • Client management experience is required.
  • Experience working with contractors is an asset.
  • Consulting engineering experience is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with team members and clients.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.
  • Ability to take direction, follow process and accept feedback and suggestions from more senior staff and management.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering & registered P.Eng in good standing.

Industry experience of 8 - 12 years minimum.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather and operations at industrial / manufacturing facilities.
