Your opportunity

Stantec is a global engineering consulting firm dedicated to creating sustainable and innovative solutions with a focus on people, value, team spirit, and excellence. The successful candidate will work closely with our local team of approximately 35 geotechnical staff in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia with support from our team in Atlantic Canada, supported by a wider, regional team of over 200 geotechnical staff.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Development: Apply your growing expertise while learning from experienced engineers and contributing to high-quality deliverables. Plan and manage materials testing and inspection projects. Conduct engineering analyses and design related to asphalt, concrete and soils for a variety of small to large geotechnical projects related to transportation and infrastructure, power, mining, industrial, commercial and residential developments .Interact with a wide variety of clients from owners, developers and contractors to aggregate, hot mix asphalt and ready mixed concrete producers.
  • Escape the Office: Perform occasional field work, which may include visual site inspections, construction monitoring, materials testing services, and coordination with field teams, The extent of fieldwork may vary depending on the applicants interest and experience.
  • Team Collaboration: Coordinate with project teams within Nova Scotia, the maritimes and across Canada and contribute to a supportive, growth-focused environment. Mentor and train junior staff to expand our materials engineering and geotechnical team and shape the next generation of engineers and technicians.
  • Project Delivery: Take ownership of small to mid-sized projects—supporting planning, analysis, reporting, and client communication with mentorship from senior staff. Begin building client relationships by supporting project delivery and learning to tailor solutions to meet evolving needs.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to lead small to large materials testing projects independently.
  • Ability to support laboratory operations including testing of soil, aggregate, concrete, mortar and bituminous paving mixtures.
  • Strong leadership and business development skills, including experience building and maintaining productive relationships with a client base. Such experience within a consulting organization is considered a strong asset
  • Previous success in developing teams of technologists and engineers
  • Knowledge of relevant CSA and ASTM Standards related to concrete, soils and asphalt.
  • Relevant experience in materials engineering, with interest in asphalt and concrete mix design, pavement engineering, and materials testing services. Experience with End Result Specification testing related to asphalt would be considered an asset.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of engineering (such as Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, or Mining Engineering, or Engineering Geology) from a recognized university.
  • minimum of 12 years of experience in geotechnical engineering or related services.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with Engineers Nova Scotia, or eligible for registration if transferring from another province.
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license with access to a vehicle. 
  • Ability to live and work in Canada. 
  • Residing in Nova Scotia, or willing to relocate.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
