As the Senior Manager, Pay & Benefits, reporting to the Director of Total Compensation, you will be instrumental in shaping a positive employee experience, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, and leading a dynamic team responsible for payroll and benefits administration across multiple employment groups. This is an excellent hybrid opportunity for an experienced payroll leader who excels in managing complex operations, enjoys designing and improving processes, and is dedicated to delivering outstanding service to employees.
In this role, you will :
Lead and develop a high-performing pay and benefits team by setting clear objectives, providing ongoing coaching, supporting professional growth, and fostering a collaborative environment.
Oversee and manage the entire payroll process for approximately 2800 employees across multiple groups ensuring transactions are processed accurately and timely in compliance with company policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable regulations.
Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion, promoting initiatives that create a sense ofbelonging for all personnel.
Manage the end-to-end payroll cycle for approximately 2800 employees across multiple employee pay groups, and multiple Provinces ensuring accuracy and compliance with all policies and regulations.
Partner closely with HR on compensation changes, benefits deductions, equity payouts, and employee lifecylce events
Drive payroll system optimization, upgrades, and implementations; serve as the primary payroll system owner
Establish and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and standard payroll operating procedures
Set and monitor KPIs and metrics and provide regular reports and insights.
Leverage and configure technology and lead initiatives to enhance pay and benefits productivity, consistency, compliance, and effectiveness.
Recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, service delivery, and cost effectiveness.
Monitor compliance with all payroll related regulations, staying current on changes (e.g., minimum wage, sick leave, overtime).
Provide guidance, education, and training to payroll personnel and internal stakeholders.
Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners including auditors and vendors.
Apply project management and change management principles to lead and deliver pay and benefits related initiatives.
Proactively identify and mitigate risks by establishing strong processes and collaborating closely with HR partners.
Monitor compliance with all relevant regulations, proactively staying abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes, and promptly taking action to ensure ongoing adherence and best practices.
What we are looking for :
Qualifications include 6–9 years of progressive experience in payroll and benefits and a relevant college diploma or university degree
Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certificate required; CPM Certificate preferred.
Advanced knowledge of multijurisdictional payroll legislation, payroll systems (ADP WFN preferred), and benefits administration practices.
Experience managing payroll for a complex organization (multi-Province, multi entity)
Experience in accounting/reconciliations of payroll liabilities, accounts and knowledge of Payroll GL.
Advanced expertise in Excel
Demonstrated understanding of the connections between payroll, HR and finance processes
Leadership and team management skills with the ability to resolve conflicts and inspire, motivate and engage teams to achieve program objectives.
Working Conditions
Requires significant attention to detail and concentration and ability to mentally process large amounts of information.
Ability to adapt to frequent and often urgent changes in priorities, and make decisions under pressure, work at an unpredictable pace.
The majority of work will be conducted from an office-like setting.
Some domestic or international travel to generally safe locations; exposure to moderate adverse conditions requiring attention to personal safety.
Work requires the ability to work to multiple, conflicting deadlines.
Work requires interactions with clients who may be agitated, or are experiencing stressful situations.
In a large scale emergency, where staff numbers are compromised or additional resources are required provide disaster relief and/or emergency field operational support.
