As a Senior Manager – Cloud Operations Engineering, you contribute to the overall success of the Cloud and Platform Engineering(CPE) department ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed /delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are following governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. You keep our cloud platform stable to provide an essential and dependable service that millions of customers use every day. This role will contribute to the overall success of the Cloud Platform Engineering unit by ensuring the delivery of high-quality technology solutions through effective management of technology professionals (direct and indirect reports) and collaboration with key stakeholders
across Scotiabank.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behavior; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team
Responsible for resource management, including external contractors, to ensure team is properly staffed to deliver on business and project commitments.
Establish and improve processes to increase efficiency of the team.
Works closely with Delivery Leads, Product Managers and CPE stakeholders (e.g. Technology Finance, TechOps, Modern Platforms, Audit, Security) in the planning, development and implementation of technology solutions.
Responsible for meeting scheduled milestones to ensure project/program objectives are met in a timely manner and are in accordance with the product roadmap approved by the business line for FinOps, Observability and Onboarding new Application Teams to the cloud.
Responsible for timely resolution of internal/external issues, ensuring solutions provided to the business meet best practices, quality and security standards
Utilize existing capabilities within the architecture and introduce new functionalities to support changing business requirements
Manage communication with all key stakeholders and bank groups that impact the scope, budget, risk, and resources of the work effort being managed.
Manages a team of technology professionals to successfully deliver high-quality technology solutions through scheduling, technical direction, future planning and standard CI/CD practices.
Understand how the bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Creates an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values and Code of Conduct while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
University degree in technology, computer science, engineering OR equivalent experience
7 or more years in progressive roles within Engineering/Technology, with technical working experience developing and/or supporting multi-platform based applications and infrastructure,
2 or more years’ experience in leading application development/delivery teams
Previous working experience in Agile/Scrum software delivery model.
Disciplined in development methodology and familiar with software development concepts and technologies.
Demonstrate an innovative approach to technology-based solutions
Deep understanding of web application architecture concepts, components, models, patterns
Deep knowledge of a variety of frameworks (server side, browser side, desktop, etc.)
Deep knowledge of a variety of technologies, frameworks, configuration management software, build tools, cloud solutions, and other technologies used by DevOps.
Deep knowledge of agile principles and project management methodologies, with ability to manage concurrent projects.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to explain complex information for non-technical users and to influence decision making across stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and mentor team members with differing opinions and levels of experience
Proven ability to be flexible to adapt to a dynamic environment with changing priorities
Excellent problem solving skills, with demonstrated ability to make quick, data-driven decisions under pressure.
Demonstrated ability to be reliable, proactive, results-oriented, and customer-focused.
Project management skills to map and execute short- and long-term plans for the team
Effective organization, planning, and time management skills
Strong capacity and planning skills; able to forecast and schedule activities to a degree of accuracy based on past experiences and current known information.
