What you’ll do
The Senior Financial Analyst role is an integral part of the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team accountable for Real Estate financials and non-sales driving business cases. The team is responsible for performing profit and loss (P&L) and capital annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, monthly reporting and variance analysis from budget, prior year and forecasts with a focus on providing meaningful and actionable insights. As part of a continuous improvement process, the team evolves existing and/or develops new models and processes that improve efficiency and leverage the latest business tools. The team also provides analytical support for the development of the store network and facilities across CTC banners (Canadian Tire Retail, Sport Chek, Mark’s, Pro Hockey Life, Petroleum). An important element of this support is providing critical modelling, analysis, and storytelling for non-sales driving business cases.
This role is focused on supporting the budgeting, forecasting, reporting and analysis of Canadian Tire’s real estate operating expenses. The role plays an important part in business partnering and building relationships with the Real Estate Development, Construction and Operational teams, the broader Finance function, and other stakeholders. The successful applicant will also be responsible for supporting two key strategic priorities involving Canadian Tire’s decarbonization goals, and corporate offices.
Develop and maintain working relationships with internal stakeholders including, the corporate planning group, accounting, ESG, real estate and other FP&A teams
Produce insightful, meaningful, and analytical commentary and reporting that will aid financial and non-financial stakeholders in decision making
Update and maintain as required, real estate decarbonization model to facilitate the tracking of progress towards CTC’s 2030 GHG target
Prepare forward-looking, accurate, and timely annual budgets and mid-year forecasts for various OPEX line items, leveraging historical trends and key assumptions to guide future expectations
Identify efficiencies and streamline planning and reporting processes
Ad-hoc analysis and special projects as assigned including mentoring of one intermediate and one junior financial analyst
What you’ll bring
University Degree in Accounting/Finance, or business-related discipline AND Professional Accounting designation/MBA or working towards one (CPA- CMA, CA, CGA)
3+ years of experience in an FP&A or related role, preferably in a corporate or retail environment
Intrinsic motivation and self starter attitude with ability to thrive in an environment responsive to changing business requirements
Attention to detail and a team player mentality, with an ability to effectively collaborate to deliver results
Critical thinking skills with desire to challenge the status quo, and a proven ability to “connect the dots” and tell a story
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build effective working relationships with all stakeholders
Expert working knowledge of Excel and advance working knowledge of other Microsoft applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Power BI; experience in Hyperion Financial Management, and PeopleSoft are considered an asset
