ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

This role reports to Language and Cultures Faculty Members.

 

SUMMARY

The Department of Language and Cultures at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is inviting applications for a casual employee position to conduct conversation labs for our lower level language courses. The successful applicant(s) should be committed to providing KPU students taking language courses with a first-class undergraduate educational experience.

Candidates should possess native or near-native fluency in the below language:

  • Punjabi 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assisting lecture instructors to fulfil course learning objectives
  • Providing an authentic language environment to students and conducting sessions primarily in one of the above languages during the lab component of the courses
  • Facilitating oral activities planned under the guidance of the instructor
  • Providing pronunciation modeling, guidance and ongoing oral feedback on student performance in conversational proficiency
  • Monitoring students’ attendance and assisting in the assessment of students’ oral and aural performance and reporting to the instructor in a timely fashion
  • Consulting the instructor on any teaching related issues to jointly enhance teaching efficacy and maximize student learning outcomes

 

AVAILABILITY

  • Sessions are held 1-2x a week during weekdays and evenings
  • Ability to travel to one or more KPU campuses
  • Ability to work remotely

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Work experience

  • Minimum 2-year experience in tutoring and/or working with students in a classroom setting
  • Experience teaching one or more languages as an additional language in a Canadian education context is preferred
  • Working knowledge of technology-assisted teaching and learning platforms such as Moodle is an asset
  • Post-secondary degree in teaching a language as an additional language or Arts in general is an asset

 

SALARY INFORMATION

Anticipates hourly pay rate: $34.64
