What you'll do

Reporting to the Supervisor, Property Accounting, you will work closely with Real Estate Financial Planning and Analysis, Property Management (Operations), Construction/Development teams, and Lease Administration to provide timely & accurate management reporting and analytical support for the REIT. In addition to core property accounting responsibilities, this role will support select financial analysis and internal reporting activities, including financial modeling, and intercompany processes. You will also be involved in continual process improvements and will support business initiatives as they evolve.

  • Ensure all monthly financial and management reporting is accurate and delivered on a timely basis.

  • Maintain and update monthly and annual general ledger account reconciliation working papers and follow-up to ensure items are cleared according to guidelines, procedures, and deadlines.

  • Prepare, review and approve monthly, quarterly and annual journal entries and ensure a strong control environment.

  • Coordinate with Lease Administration to ensure all lease setups and rent escalations are accurately reflected in the accounting system.

  • Update recovery setup for tenants in accordance with their leases.

  • Timely and accurate completion of CAM and tax tenant billing adjustments; working with Property Management (Operations) for preparation of tenant pre-bill notices and chargeback billings.

  • Assist in internal and external audit requirements by providing working papers and ensure compliance to enterprise processes and policies.

  • Preparation of property budgets and forecasts.

  • Support the month-end close process by preparing and posting journal entries, including accruals, allocations, and reclassifications.

  • Prepare detailed general ledger account reconciliations, including balance sheet and selected income statement accounts, with a focus on analytical review and issue resolution.

  • Prepare and process intercompany invoices and intercompany accounting entries in coordination with internal stakeholders.

  • Assist in the preparation, maintenance, and enhancement of accounting and financial models in Microsoft Excel to support reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc analysis.

  • Support internal management reporting by preparing schedules, dashboards, and analytical summaries for Finance and business partners.

  • Assist or take a leadership role on special projects, transactions, or process improvement initiatives, including ERP-related activities and system enhancements.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting and reporting processes, improve data quality, and enhance analytical capabilities through automation and improved Excel models.

What you bring

  • University degree in Accounting or a business related discipline

  • Accounting designation (CPA) or designation in progress/pursuing designation

  • Minimum 2 years of accounting experience required, candidate with exposure to commercial real estate is preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)

  • Strong analytical, decision making, and problem solving skills

  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service with internal and external stakeholders

  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and general ledger accounting systems

  • Ability and willingness to learn and effectively use new technologies, including Microsoft Copilot, Power BI and emerging AI tools, to support accounting, analysis, and internal reporting

  • Working knowledge of Yardi is considered an asset

Our typical hiring range is between $53,000.00 and $88,000.00. Salary decisions are also dependent on other factors such as your experience, job-related knowledge, skills and competencies, market location, industry benchmarks, internal equity and other role-specific requirements.
