Position: Project Finance Manager, Structured & Project Finance

Compensation Details:
Underwriter 19: Salaries typically range from $130,000 to $160,000 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a 20% performance-based incentive.
Underwriter 20: Salaries typically range from $150,000 to $180,000 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a 20% performance-based incentive.
Location:
- Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week, increasing to 3 days a week in September 2026 (subject to change)
- This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto or Montreal.
- Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.

Team Overview:
EDC’s Structured and Project Finance Team (SPF) is a leader in global project and infrastructure finance, playing a significant role in helping Canada grow and diversify its international Project finance and build trade-enabling infrastructure in Canada. Since its establishment in 1995, the SPF team has successfully closed over 700 financing transactions globally, totalling more than USD 59 billion. The SPF team also provides thought leadership to internal and government stakeholders on major critical minerals, energy transition, and trade-enabling infrastructure projects.
Project Finance is a specialized field of finance where financing decisions are based on project-specific cash flows and assets. It is widely used across industries such as energy, renewables, mining/critical minerals, transportation infrastructure and digital infrastructure. EDC’s project finance counterparties include top-tier international sponsors, exporters, law firms and global project finance and investment banks.
EDC is looking for an experienced lending professional to join our Structured and Project Finance Team. We offer a unique opportunity for a finance professional seeking an exciting career in international project finance to become a key member in a leading project finance team. Reporting to one of the Directors, Structured and Project Finance, the selected candidate will become a sector expert, responsible for all aspects of delivery of limited recourse project financing transactions, from early origination to portfolio management.
What you will be doing:
Transaction Execution:
- Responsible for originating, structuring and closing project finance transactions. Financing structures will vary depending on client requirements, including structured, project and acquisition financing transactions.
- Conducting due diligence and assessing all project and transaction risks, negotiating mitigants and financial terms and conditions as required and establishing appropriate transaction pricing.
- Directing or conducting the financial analysis of project finance transactions using detailed cash flow models.
- Managing external advisors and counterparties as required.
- Making credit recommendations and obtaining all required approvals.
- Negotiating changes or developing documentation as required, in collaboration with legal counsel and transaction counterparties.
- Overseeing the work of a broader deal team which includes Associates and various internal advisors; providing leadership, coaching, training and mentorship roles to members of the deal team.
Client Engagement & Portfolio Management:
- Engaging professionally with internal and external stakeholders during transaction execution.
- Managing a portfolio of assets throughout the life of transactions.
- Tracking market developments and opportunities, preparing financing proposals, conducting market scanning exercises to identify market insights and trends.
- Supporting the Director in prospecting new opportunities and engaging in business development.
What we are looking for:
- Minimum 7 years of structured & project financing or related experience
- Sector and financing knowledge of one or more sectors suitable for project financing, such as energy, renewables, mining/critical minerals, transportation infrastructure or digital infrastructure
- MBA graduate/Master’s degree with a focus on finance, international business, or a related field, or equivalent education and related work experience
Skills & Competencies:
Technical Skills:
- Strong credit and financial analysis skills, with knowledge of market standard terms and conditions for project finance transactions
- Proficiency in financial modeling and spreadsheet applications
- Knowledge of credit and capital markets
Sectoral & Business Knowledge:
- Understanding of energy, renewables, mining/critical minerals, transportation infrastructure or digital infrastructure sectors
- Familiarity with Canadian and/or international business and banking practices
- Knowledge of general business practices, international business issues and economics
Interpersonal Skills:
- Personal agility
- Excellent communication skills in English (written, verbal, presentation)
- Customer focus and ability to build strong customer relationships
- Strong negotiation, diplomacy, and persuasion abilities
What will make you stand out:
- Experience in transaction origination including presenting proposals to clients and leading transactions through credit approval processes
- CFA or other professional designation
- Ability to communicate in both French and English, as well as other key international trading market languages
