Program Manager, Digital Arts 

This is a term position until March 31, 2027.

The Opportunity

The Banff Centre is in search of a Program Manager, Digital Arts, that will be responsible for the advance planning and successful implementation of Digital Arts programs, including; artist residencies, training initiatives and production-based labs and Mountain Culture filmmaking programs. This role requires experience across contemporary production environments, including; film and television, audio recording, motion capture, extended reality (XR), virtual production and game engine-based workflows, along with the ability to support both industry-standard and exploratory artist-led practices.  The goal is to provide an outstanding experience for participants, faculty, special guests and where relevant, audiences.

The Digital Arts portfolio encompasses  programs in film, Mountain Culture filmmaking, audio, digital storytelling, immersive and interactive media, and technology-enabled performance. Success in this role is measured by the  ability to translate the vision of the director and faculty into well-executed programs that align with Banff Centre’s facilities, technical infrastructure, and staffing resources. This position draws on  strong industry experience, a comprehensive understanding of production workflows and technical requirements, and the ability to support complex, interdisciplinary projects within defined timelines and operational parameters.

Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Digital Arts, below are some key responsibilities:

Program Planning

  • Support the Director in the conception and design of programs by advising on logistics, scheduling, recruitment, communication and other implications
  • Work with the Director to build program budgets and develop the program delivery critical path in accordance with Banff Centre approved processes
  • Obtain from Marketing, Communications and Development teams, information needed to ensure that public, media and donor engagement milestones are included in project planning to support full enrollment, deliver audiences and media, and steward funders expectations for supporting the programs
  • Liaise with relevant departments and teams to confirm responsibility for deliverables, production schedules, ensure accurate and useful information is on Banff Centre planning database platforms and to oversee the applications, adjudication and notification process in accordance with Banff Centre processes and policies
  • Prepare the program web page content and update as necessary
  • Develop processes for regularly communicating and reporting on program milestones, key deliverables, updates and risk mitigation in consultation with the Director

Program Implementation

  • Work closely with Program Administration, Participant Services and Human Resources in all aspects of people management as it pertains to program participants, including; recruiting, orientation and discipline to ensure policies, procedures and contractual expectations are met
  • Align resource requests, planning and allocation for programs within approved plans and budgets as well as within established deadlines and in consultation with delivery areas
  • Coordinate and/or participate in a regular process of program and events planning review and evaluation, that ensures the highest ethical standards in project implementation activities and make appropriate recommendations

 Qualification and Educational Requirements

  • 5+ years of proven program management experience, preferably within a creative environment
  • University degree in an arts discipline or related area of study, or equivalent experience
  • Strong Digital Arts background
  • Proven analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of products with advanced Excel skills
  • Solid understanding of program and events, marketing, promotion and production
  • Applies good management principles in an artistic environment
  • Has an ability to formulate long and short-range goals, while anticipating and responding to flexible program needs
  • Is an Ambassador for Banff Centre
  • Production and or post-secondary institution experience is an asset, as is literacy across a broad range of arts disciplines

     

Employment Terms and Benefits

  • In accordance with the terms of employment governing Management/PSP employees, this is a salaried, full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period.
  • The salary range for this position is $68,714 - $102,040 based on experience.
  • The successful candidate will enjoy twenty paid vacation days and four personal days annually, extended medical and dental benefits, and participation in an employer-matched pension plan.
