Homewood Ravensview is a private 75-bed mental health, trauma and addiction facility offering evidence-based, medically-led, inpatient services for first responders, military, veterans, executives & professionals, adults, and young adults. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will be an integral part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team focused on delivering seamless services and programs to our clients and customers.
The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct health care services to patients presenting with a wide variety of complex addictions and mental health issues. Working within scope of practice, the LPN performs physical, addiction, and mental status assessments; refers patients to the physician for further examination; and administers prescribed treatments and medications. The LPN observes, monitors, evaluates, and documents patient progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes, and performs a variety of health care interventions. The LPN provides counselling, education, and support using a motivational and health promotion approach. The LPN works collaboratively with other members of the interdisciplinary team, the patient, the family, and the community.
What you’ll be doing
- Implement the principles and practices of a patient and family centered recovery model in mental health and addictions treatment.
- Conduct comprehensive mental health and addiction risk assessments, formulate treatment and discharge plans, and provide crisis intervention.
- Perform detox assessments
- Communicate and collaborate with patients and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self-care, and prognosis.
- Assess patients daily for care needs and follow up; consult with doctors and clinical team members about patient care.
- Collaborate with patients and other health professionals to identify and assess trends and patterns that have implications for patients, families, and communities.
- Analyze and synthesize all available information for the development of an individualized treatment plan in collaboration with other care providers, patients, and families.
- Identify and respond appropriately to legal and ethical issues that may arise in patient care.
- Conduct day-to-day care delivery to patients and administer medications
- Provide nursing intervention as required and determine when health care needs to be escalated to other health professionals.
- Coordinate referrals to appropriate health resources. Liaise with health practitioners and agencies for the planning and implementation of health care
- Advocate for the patient.
- Perform appropriate clinical monitoring
- Evaluate efficacy of care and treatment plans and adjust as necessary.
- Intervene in emergencies, crises, or violent situations, according to the needs of the patient and family.
- Document assessments and patient progress. Keep records current and complete documentation on time.
- Mentor and act as a preceptor for students as required
What we’re looking for:
- Licensed Practical Nurse Diploma
- Current full practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP)
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention course preferred.
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification for health care providers (Level 1 or greater)
- Demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of situations and responsibilities requiring initiative, creativity, and professional judgment.
- Ability to work with patients with mental health and substance abuse issues
- Knowledge of community, social, and mental health resources.
- Awareness and acknowledgement of the value of using measurement-based care when supporting patients/clients to help guide clinical decision making; experience an asset
- Ability to effectively manage conflict situations and aggressive behaviour, and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques.

Compensation is influenced by many factors including compensation principles or approach for a role or job function, organizational tenure, experience, qualifications or premium skills, external competitiveness, internal comparability, geography and work performance. Pay range for this position is $34.20- $46.40/hour.
