The Toxicology Section of the Animal Health Laboratory seeks a qualified individual to play a key role in supporting Laboratory Services Division’s values: Client Centered, Integrity, Individuals Matter, Shared Responsibility, and Committed to Evolving. The incumbent will be responsible for performing ICP-MS and ICP-OES elemental analysis in matrices including animal tissues and fluids, animal feed, stomach contents and feces, etc. Duties include: receiving and preparing samples; digestion and performing analysis; performing instrument quality control and maintenance; method development and validation; reporting data into the laboratory information management system (LIMS); and general laboratory activities including inventory tracking, preparation of reagents and standards, storage and disposal of samples.
Requirements of the position include:
- Three-year community college program with an emphasis on medical, chemical technologies or instrumental analysis, plus some related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience;
- Demonstrated working knowledge and experience using microwave digestion systems;
- Demonstrated working knowledge and experience using ICP-MS and ICP-OES instrumentation, related analysis, QC, maintenance and method development/validation;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability and a strong chemistry background;
- Proven experience with quality control including appropriate trouble-shooting activities;
- Exceptional self-motivational skills combined with strong communication skills to work effectively in both a team and individual environment;
- Good understanding of laboratory health & safety practices and WHMIS
- Experience working with a recognized quality management system (ISO/IEC 17025, AAVLD or OECD GLP);
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, client-focused environment with an emphasis on producing quality results.
Must be, or be willing to be, rabies vaccinated.

Normal Hiring Range $28.46 - $31.80 per hour
