Project Description:

 

The Lab Development Assistant will support the Development of the Child & Youth Trauma Research Incubator (ThRIve) Lab at McMaster University; the ThRIve Lab is a novel multi-institutional initiative spearheaded by McGill University and which involves satellite sites across Canada that are creating dedicated dynamic spaces across Canada for community-led research that is focused on child and youth trauma. The core research question that aims to be answered via the ThRIve Labs is “How can community-based research improve practice and policy for vulnerable trauma-affected children and youth in Canada?”

 


Job Summary:

 

Under the direction of the Lab Coordinator, support the building, renovation and development of educational laboratories.  

 

 

 

Accountabilities:

  1. Conduct directed research on instructional topics to support the development of new educational labs.
  2. Compile cost estimates for the development of new educational labs.
  3. Provide support in the preparation and setup of laboratory insturctional resources.
  4. Simulate laboratory teaching experiments and document deficiencies in lab procedures.
  5. Provide assistance in laboratory renovations and relocations.
 


Qualifications:

 

Education: Currently enrolled in a relevant post-secondary degree.  

 

 

 

Experience: Not required.

 

 

 

Assets:

 

The ideal candidate would have skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Research Support
  • Assisting with ethics applications and REB submissions
  • Supporting data collection and management (e.g., surveys, interviews, transcription, data entry)
  • Conducting literature reviews and preparing summaries
  • Administrative Expertise:
  • Organizing lab documents, onboarding materials, and standard operating procedures
  • Managing calendars, email correspondence, and travel logistics
  • Coordinating budget tracking and expense reports (in collaboration with finance staff)
  • Knowledge Mobilization & Communication:
  • Helping develop and edit slide decks, reports, infographics, and other outputs
  • Supporting webinar coordination or virtual event logistics
  • Drafting communications for websites, newsletters, or social media
