We are seeking a Junior Geoscientist/Water Quality Specialist to join the Water Resources Team as part of the Environmental Services division of Stantec in British Columbia. We are a multi-disciplinary team of technical experts that provide water resource solutions for clients in the mining, industrial, government, and oil and gas sectors throughout BC, Canada and across the globe in the technical disciplines of water quality, geochemistry, hydrology, and hydrogeology. This position is well suited to an early-career professional with approximately 1 to 3 years of direct geochemistry, water quality, or related environmental experience who is motivated to build strong technical skills in mine waste characterization, metal leaching and acid rock drainage assessment, water quality interpretation, and predictive geochemical modelling (i.e., Phreeqc/Geochemist’s Workbench).
The successful candidate will support a range of technical work, including water quality assessments for permitting and regulatory applications, bedrock geology and mineral identification, geochemical characterization programs, ARD/ML assessments, geochemistry and water quality monitoring programs, data analysis and interpretation, and preparation of technical reports. Familiarity with R statistical programming and geochemical modelling software is a preferred skill. Work may include field programs in urban and remote locations.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment Program to promote a strong health and safety culture
- Assist with metal leaching/acid rock drainage assessment and water quality monitoring field programs, water quality/geochemical regulatory reporting and permitting applications, and environmental impact assessments
- Assist with rock, soil, seepage, groundwater, and surface water sampling programs.
- Compile, organize, QA/QC, and interpret large geochemical and water quality datasets.
- Support geochemistry and water quality assessments, including interpretation of static and kinetic test data.
- Contribute to water quality and geochemical modelling using tools such as PHREEQC, Excel, Geochemist Workbench, GoldSim
- Prepare figures, tables, technical memoranda, and sections of reports for internal and client deliverables.
- Contribute to preparation of technical reports and client presentations summarizing project work, findings, and recommendations
- Support development of proposals
- Coordinate with commercial laboratories on sample submission, analytical programs, and data review.
- Travel periodically to project sites for field programs
- Conduct field programs for water quality/geochemical monitoring programs
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Working knowledge of ARD/ML concepts, mine waste geochemistry, and water quality assessment.
- Comfortable with large datasets and good knowledge of common statistical techniques used for environmental data analysis
- Experience in technical aptitude, problem solving, and ability to ask for help
- Strong organizational and communications skills
- Implementing quality control and quality assurance procedures during sample collection and data analysis
- Experience with geochemical data analysis and interpretation.
- Writing clear, concise, and accurate technical reports, environmental assessments, or other industry documents
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geochemistry, Geology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Geoscience, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline. Preference will be given to advanced degrees.
- 1–3 years of direct experience in geochemistry, preferably in mining, environmental consulting, mine waste, or mine water quality.
- Registered as a G.I.T. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligible to register.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for field assignments.

Pay Range:
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$58,200.00 - $81,500.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
