Stantec’s Prairies and Territories Environmental Services group is currently seeking an Intermediate to Senior Environmental Planner to work with our Assessment and Permitting team. This role supports environmental review and licensing, an increasingly critical component of development projects across Canada and globally. In this role, the successful candidate will provide support to all stages of a project’s lifecycle including assessment, permitting and approval requirements, construction support, and post-construction support. Projects will include small to large-scale provincial and federal environmental assessments for the oil and gas, power and energy, infrastructure, transportation, and mining sectors. This specific role will have a focus on midstream oil and gas projects with an opportunity to work on other projects as available. With a working knowledge in federal, provincial, and municipal jurisdictions, you will be joining a multidisciplinary team in Environmental Services at Stantec who works closely with our multidisciplinary teams (e.g., ecosystems, water resources, cultural resources, and site investigation and remediation teams).

The position is based in one of our key offices, located in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Yellowknife, or Winnipeg.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Act as an internal subject matter expert on regulatory requirements related to the approval and construction of midstream projects within Western Canada including cross borders (provincial and US)
- Lead a project team of discipline experts
- Drive project delivery with a key focus on efficient execution, project controls, and safety
- Use sound judgement to solve and manage risks associated with project support activities
- Work in a collaborative team of technical environmental specialists to lead the approval and permitting process
- Prepare and review environmental assessments, regulatory applications and technical submissions
- Contribute to proposals, pre- qualifications, and relationship building with existing and prospective clients
- Communicate and collaborate with other environmental and regulatory specialists to ensure consistency in project execution
- Support the development and mentorship of junior and intermediate staff
- Participate in team and independent based work
- Take part in on-the-job learning and professional development opportunities
- Support and ensure implementation of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, standards and guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSE professionals during the execution of all project phases
Your Capabilities and Experience
- Ability to work with initiative, professionalism and confidentiality, multi-task and adapt to change in a very dynamic environment
- Strong understanding of provincial (AB, BC) and federal regulations, in particular CER, environmental assessment processes, permitting requirements and construction planning needs
- Demonstrated effective writing and communication skills

- Experience in midstream operations, including construction execution and support is considered an asset
Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in the Sciences, Environmental Studies or relevant Engineering field.
Preferred but, not necessary, holding or eligibility to obtain a relevant professional designation (e.g., P. Bio, R.P.F., P.Ag, EP, P.Eng).
A minimum of 10 years of environmental and regulatory related experience in the energy sector (general and/or midstream oil and gas, energy transition).
Previous consulting experience preferred.
A valid driver’s license.
This role is a typical office environment, working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work and/or site visits may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
