The School of Health and Human Performance in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Health invites applications from qualified candidates for a probationary or continuing faculty appointment at the Instructor or Senior Instructor rank, commencing July 1, 2026.

Dalhousie University is comprised of 6,000 faculty and staff amongst its 13 Faculties. Current enrollment is over 20,000 graduate and undergraduate students. As part of Canada’s U15 research-intensive group, Dalhousie University is an influential driver of the region’s intellectual, social and economic development. It is the largest university in Atlantic Canada and is located on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq in the heart of Halifax (Kjipuktuk), a scenic coastal city and capital of Nova Scotia, a deeply rooted African Nova Scotia community, an increasingly diverse population which also includes a vibrant workforce of people living with disabilities.

The Faculty of Health’s faculty, staff and students are committed to improving the well-being of individuals, families, communities and populations through diverse health programming, collaborative research and strong community partnerships. The Faculty of Health is one of the largest Faculties at Dalhousie, comprised of eight schools, one college and one program, more than 200 faculty members, 80 staff members, and approximately 3,000 students. With the most programmatically diverse health Faculty in Canada, our students are exposed to a broad range of health topics and learning experiences.

The School of Health and Human Performance’s vision is “advancing knowledge towards sustainable health, wellness, and performance”. The School offers programs leading to bachelor’s and master’s Degrees in Kinesiology, Health Promotion, Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, and Recreation Management.

The primary duties of this position include the preparation and delivery of undergraduate and graduate teaching in health promotion. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses corresponding with a demonstrated area of expertise and the teaching needs of the Health Promotion Bachelor and Master of Arts programs (e.g., introduction to health promotion, introduction to health systems, health communication, mental health promotion, health promotion strategies, and human sexuality). The successful candidate will also be expected to support curricula development and revisions and will be expected to engage in the scholarship of teaching and learning. Experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning will be considered assets as well as curricula development and mapping.

Employment requirements and preferences:
The successful candidate will preferably hold a PhD in Health Promotion or a health-related field. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of strong teaching, organizational, and effective interpersonal and communication skills. Expertise in foundational health promotion tenets, the social and/or structural determinants of health and health equity, and in innovative teaching strategies such as teaching online would be an asset. The successful candidate must be prepared to work individually, with faculty, staff, and teaching assistants and students to grow and improve the delivery of the Health Promotion undergraduate and graduate programs. It is expected that the successful candidate will serve on the Health Promotion Division and School and Faculty-level committees.

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience with experiential learning, and a demonstrated commitment to applying principles of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) in course development, teaching approaches, and workplace interactions.

This position is a part of the Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA) Bargaining Unit.
