Adecco is currently hiring a full-time Heavy Duty Mechanic for our client in Port Alberni, BC. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced trades professional to work in marine and industrial environments, supporting critical equipment operations across both shop and remote field settings.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in hands-on, physically demanding environments and brings strong troubleshooting skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety.

  • Pay Rate: $54.15 per hour

  • Location: Port Alberni, BC

  • Shift:  Monday – Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

  • Job type: Temporary | Full-time | union position

Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment

  • Conduct diagnostics and advanced troubleshooting of mechanical systems

  • Repair and maintain:

    • Engines

    • Hydraulic systems

    • Electrical systems

    • Braking systems

    • Powertrain components

  • Complete major component replacements

  • Rotate between shop and field assignments

  • Travel to remote and barge-based worksites along the West Coast

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records (e.g., Helm system)

  • Follow safety procedures and maintenance protocols

  • Provide guidance and support to team members

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and escalate issues as needed

  • Actively participate in workplace safety programs

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician certification (or equivalent experience)

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Minimum 5 years of heavy equipment experience, preferably in marine or field environments

  • Strong troubleshooting and independent problem-solving skills

  • Comfortable working in remote and physically demanding conditions

  • Good computer skills and experience with maintenance tracking systems

  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities

  • Commitment to health & safety standards

  • Experience with crawler cranes or friction drive equipment

  • Experience operating mobile equipment (telehandlers, forklifts, counterbalance)

  • Welding experience (MIG, ARC, GMAW, SMAW)

  • First Aid certification

  • Pleasure Craft Operator certification

  • Previous experience working in remote locations

  • Must be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada
