Posting Description

The Genetic Counsellor will support the development, implementation, and knowledge translation activities of BRIDGE-SEQ, a 24-month mixed-methods pediatric genomics project focused on developing actionable, patient-centred recommendations for returning clinically significant genomic research findings from research to clinical practice. This role will contribute to the creation of translational genomics pathways that are ethical, equitable, operationally feasible, culturally sensitive, and centred on the needs and experiences of patients and families.

This role is well suited to a genetic counsellor with strong qualitative or mixed-methods research skills, excellent writing and synthesis abilities, and interest in pediatric genomics, bioethics, return of research results, patient engagement, co-design, implementation science, allied health practice, and equity-oriented health research.

Here's What You'll Get To Do

• Support research development and study start-up by contributing to development, refinement, and implementation of the BRIDGE-SEQ research protocol (i.e. two-phase mixed-methods study design).
• Conduct targeted literature reviews and environmental scans related to pediatric genomics, return of genomic research results, clinical translation, etc. and summarize and synthesize evidence to inform study design, recruitment approaches, data collection tools, analytic frameworks, co-design activities.
• Develop and support co-design activities for engagement of diverse stakeholder groups, including patients and families, research participants and their families, allied health professionals, physicians, researchers, and relevant institutional stakeholders.
• Contribute to interpretation of findings using qualitative and mixed methods analysis, and develop patient-centred, ethically grounded, clinically feasible, and implementation-oriented recommendations for returning clinically significant genomic research findings.
• Develop outputs that build capacity for allied health professionals and multidisciplinary teams to support communication, disclosure, referral, follow-up, and integration of research-derived genomic findings into patient care.

Essential Requirements

• A Master of Science in Genetic Counselling.
• Certification (or eligible for) by the Canadian Board of Genetic Counselling (CBGC) and/or the American Board of Genetic Counsellors (ABGC).
• Demonstrated experience contributing to health research, qualitative research, mixed-methods research, patient engagement, co-design, or implementation-oriented research projects.
• Experience conducting literature reviews, synthesizing evidence, developing research materials, supporting data collection, and contributing to analysis and written outputs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex research concepts for diverse audiences
• A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity & inclusion and patient-orientated research principles

Preferred Qualifications

• A PhD in Genomics, Applications of Genomic Technologies, or a related field
• Familiarity with pediatric genomics, clinical genomics, return of research results, genetic counselling, bioethics, or precision health.
• Experience with qualitative data analysis software, survey tools, reference management software, or research project-management tools.
• Experience contributing to manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, or knowledge translation products.
• High attention to detail and commitment to research integrity, confidentiality, and ethical conduct of research
