Job Summary:

To perform investigations, surveys and analysis related to programs and projects of the City's facilities, infrastructure and moveable assets.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performs land surveys as part of a Cadastral field crew.

  • Assists the crew lead in conducting field activities, including measuring, data collection, field note preparation, documentation, layout, etc.

  • Operates and maintains a variety of mechanical, digital, analogue, wireless, computerized and other equipment to perform tasks such as surveys, drafting, calculations, diagnostics, repairs, studies.

  • Investigates, researches and conducts studies. Collects and analyzes data and prepares reports.

  • Prepares sketches and technical designs. Reads and interprets technical drawings.

  • Collects, maintains, analyzes data and prepares reports, making recommendations.

  • Responds to complaints and inquiries.

 

Key Qualifications:

1. Post-secondary education in Surveying or Civil Engineering Technology or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. Experience operating modern survey field equipment such as robotic total stations, GNSS systems, levels, etc.

3. Experience in performing manual and computerized mathematical calculations used in Cadastral land surveying.

4. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario "G" driver's licence and be eligible to qualify for a City driver's permit.

You must also haves:

  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and how it applies to this work

  • Knowledge and understanding of cadastral land survey theories and principles

  • Ability to produce field notes in compliance with AOLS standards

  • Ability to read and interpret documentary evidence used in Cadastral land surveys

  • Must be physically able to operate various hand and power tools, lift and move various pieces of equipment and work in inclement weather.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with the public, stakeholders, and at all organizational levels

  • Ability to plan, prioritize, organize, and undertake work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to travel to various work locations in a timely and efficient manner

  • Ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity, inclusion and respectful workplaces
