Student and New Grad Opportunities

Our student and new grad opportunities include internships and co-op programs, all designed to give your career a strong start. Work terms begin at four months in length and may be extended for an additional four months or more, depending on business needs. While most roles are full-time, there is flexibility for part-time work.

Our program is ideal for early career professionals who are new grads that have completed their courses within the past year, as well as students in their current program of study. Work terms in our program can be counted towards an accredited co-op program with your university or college.

Our Ideal Student or New Grad:

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program (eligible for up to one year after completion of studies).
  • Available for 8 months or more - While roles will be available for 4-month terms, preference will be given to candidates with availability that extends.
  • Previous work term experience related to their field of study
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter, good organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Enthusiasm to tackle any task, whether menial or complex
  • Knowledge of both official languages is an asset and may be required for certain positions

Compensation Details:

Student, New Grad & Master’s salaries range from $42,900 to $56,550 annually, based on year of study. Please see the salary breakdown by year of study below:

  • 1st Year: $42,900 ($22.00/hour)
  • 2nd Year: $44,850 ($23.00/hour)
  • 3rd Year: $46,800 ($24.00/hour)
  • 4th Year and Beyond: $48,750 ($25.00/hour)
  • New Graduate (Undergraduate): $54,600 ($28.00/hour)
  • Master’s/PhD: $56,550 ($29.00/hour)

Team & Job Overview

EDC is seeking a Junior Associate, Climate and Sustainable Finance to join the Sustainability Team, assisting with the continued operations of EDC’s sustainable finance functions and the development of EDC’s climate and sustainable finance strategy.

As a Crown Corporation, EDC has an important role in supporting businesses and large projects that contribute to Canada’s economy and international projects around the globe. EDC made a net-zero commitment in 2021 and is a member of the Net-Zero Export Credit Agencies Alliance (NZECA). We face a pivotal time of supporting industries and sectors of the future to increase Canada’s economic and climate resiliency while also balancing environmental impacts. To this end, the deployment of capital in line with EDC’s Sustainable Finance Framework, and the delivery of both economic and environmental or social impacts, remains a key component of EDC’s 2030 strategy.

Students’ capabilities will be assessed against the requirements for the Sustainability team.

Key Responsibilities may include:

  • Conduct transaction review and evaluation for eligibility against EDC’s Sustainable Finance Framework.
  • Assists with data collection, analysis and reporting towards EDC’s sustainable finance targets and the performance of EDC’s green bonds.
  • Assists with key performance indicator and sustainability performance target benchmarking against international environmental, social, and sustainable lending standards.
  • Assists in research to support the delivery of sustainable finance including frameworks, positions, market standards, etc.
  • Assists in preparing materials for senior team members or leadership.
  • Supports special projects (i.e. document management, data analysis, process design, content for internal awareness and education campaigns, stakeholder engagement etc.)

Screening Criteria  

  • Currently in or within 1 year of graduation from an undergraduate or masters degree in a relevant field, such as Sustainable Business, Sustainability and Financial Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Sustainability, Human Rights, Social Justice Studies or other relevant disciplines; 
  • English proficiency: bilingual in both official languages (French and English) preferred. 

Assets

  • Experience in data analytics or portfolio reporting.
  • Experience working in sustainable finance (including portfolio monitoring, asset identification, and bond issuance).
  • Experience working in financial services or federal crown corporation.

Location: 

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, with a current requirement of two in-office days per week, increasing to three days per week in September 2026 (subject to change).

  • Opportunities may be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto or Montreal.
