A career as a Director, Real Estate Financing within the Commercial & Private Banking 1859 sector means acting as a senior individual contributor and strategic expert supporting the Bank’s most sophisticated real estate clients across complex construction, interim, and long‑term financing needs. This role has a direct impact on portfolio quality, revenue growth, and market positioning.


Your Role
  • Originate, structure, and lead large‑scale and complex real estate financing transactions, including non‑standard structures and elevated risk profiles.
  • Act as a trusted strategic advisor to top‑tier real estate developers, investors, and owners, supporting long‑term financing and capital strategies.
  • Drive market‑level business development, identifying new opportunities and strengthening the Bank’s presence within the real estate ecosystem.
  • Maintain full accountability for a significant, high‑value portfolio, including credit underwriting, annual reviews, and long‑term risk management.
  • Exercise senior credit judgment, including deal structuring, covenant design, and negotiations with internal credit partners.
  • Identify and proactively manage sector‑specific risks, including market cycles, asset performance, sponsor strength, and structural complexity.
  • Act as a reference point and mentor for Directors and Portfolio Managers on complex transactions and best practices.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives and continuous improvement at the platform level, in collaboration with senior leaders across Canada.

Your Team
Within the Commercial & Private Banking 1859 sector, you are part of the national Real Estate Financing team and report to senior leadership. This role is dedicated to serving the Calgary market, while working in close collaboration with internal partners and stakeholders across Canada..

Prerequisites
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 8–10+ years of experience in real estate financing, commercial banking, or structured finance.
  • Proven experience with large, complex real estate transactions.
  • Strong business development, negotiation, and strategic advisory capabilities.
  • Deep knowledge of real estate banking products, credit structuring, and risk management.
  • Ability to operate with high autonomy and influence senior stakeholders.
