Job Description:

The Digital Product Owner, Health Member Journey, reporting to the AVP Digital Client Channels & Health Member Journey, role focuses on building best in class digital experiences and services that are valuable to our prospects and members. You’ll lead a digital product vision for our Health member experiences, including defining a clear strategic roadmap and prioritized features. You will also lead the delivery of complex and large-scale projects, in an agile methodology. We are continuing to evolve how we attract, engage and delight our clients. As demand increases for immediate and convenient information and Health services, it is crucial that our systems, data, and digital properties evolve to create meaningful experiences. For a journey this exciting and complex, we are looking for a proven leader who can help deliver exceptional business outcome for Sun Life Canada. The Digital Product Owner is responsible for maximizing the value of the digital product channel (web and mobile). The role requires a capable decision maker who works closely with business stakeholders, governance and control partners and various technology and delivery teams to develop innovative, advisor and client-focused digital solutions to meet business needs. The person who fills this role is a digital passionate about building client experiences that can support clients in meeting their long-term health goals. The successful candidate is resilient, adapts well to change, is effective in communicating business objectives and desired outcomes, and is able to drive business value.

What will you do?

  • Develop and maintain a clear product vision and roadmap aligning to overall strategic vision and Business Unit objectives

  • Communicate and drive alignment on that vision effectively with stakeholders, partners and cross-functional teams

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure digital vision and products align with team strategy and requirements

  • Work closely with business leaders to establish each product’s business value, and support messaging communication and customer outreach as necessary

  • Create, prioritize and manage a Product Backlog to maximize business value, maintaining an adequate backlog of user stories to sustain persistent agile team delivery (e.g. maintain a backlog that is 3 to 4 sprints ahead of the team)

  • Make data driven decisions and utilize data to drive the overall strategy

  • Utilize market and industry knowledge to translate user needs into user stories and acceptance criteria for the team

  • Determine end-to-end team output strategy from inception to production

  • Develop user stories, define acceptance criteria and be available to the agile delivery team to provide clarity whenever required. Sync with other Product Owners when needed from an overall product, company, or advisor/client perspective to ensure there is consistency across products and product releases

  • Be an agile change agent and support agile delivery framework and ceremonies; support organizational change management

  • Facilitate release planning with stakeholders as well as demos

  • Integrate usability studies and research into product requirements to enhance user satisfaction and ensure customer driven design

  • Be accountable for product specific OKRs and communicate progress to stakeholders

  • Partner with the Business Unit, marketing partners and cross-functional teams to drive business results and meet targets

  • Ability to manage and lead a team to push an end solution forward

  • Strong communication and presentation skills to senior stakeholders

  • Ability to synthesize business needs into a digital strategy and roadmap

  • Ability to work with teams located in different geolocations

  • Effective at influencing others in supporting product direction

  • Able to navigate a large organization at a senior level

  • Ability to collaborate and make decisions effectively with Technical Leads and Scrum Masters

  • Skilled in handling change management

  • Excellent ability to problem solve, and analyze options, to arrive at the best solution

  • Firm grasp of development methodologies, particularly agile development

  • A curious and continuous learning mind-set to test-and-learn

  • Able to empower others to fail, learn, and grow

  • Encouraging an experimental mindset to drive innovation

Education & Experience:

  • 5-8+ years in insurance, financial services or digital healthcare industry

  • Experience with agile delivery or experience working on technology project

  • Experience in facilitating agile ceremonies & backlog/release plans

  • A depth of strategic experience with a focus on business model evolution

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
