Cardiac Intensivist (Full-Time)

Position Summary

The Department of Critical Care Medicine, Division of Cardiac Critical Care, at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is inviting applications for a full-time Cardiac Intensivist position.

We are seeking a candidate with the interest, expertise, and leadership to advance the field of pediatric cardiac critical care.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must:

' Hold an MD, MBBS, or equivalent medical degree
' Demonstrate proficiency in English
' Have advanced training and extensive clinical experience in pediatric cardiac critical care
' Be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent
' Be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
' Be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto
' Demonstrate excellence in teaching, research, or other scholarly activities
' Be committed to a career as an academic clinician

Preference will be given to mid-to-senior career cardiac intensivists, particularly those with experience in large-volume cardiac programs.

Additional expertise in any of the following areas would be considered an asset:

' Quality Improvement, particularly registry-based quality initiatives
' Global Health
' Pulmonary Hypertension

Key Responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities include:

' Providing full-time pediatric cardiac critical care practice in the Cardiac Critical Care Unit (CCCU)
' Acting as the Most Responsible Physician (MRP) for critically ill children admitted to the CCCU
' Leading patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical management decisions
' Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and consulting services to optimize patient care
' Performing procedures required in the care of critically ill children
' Providing consultation and management recommendations through CritiCall for critically ill children across SickKids' referral network
' Coordinating with the Acute Care Transport Service (ACTS) for patient retrieval and transfer to SickKids
' Providing inpatient consultation services through the Cardiology Consult Service
' Participating in collaborative initiatives and programs within the Labatt Family Heart Centre, based on qualifications and interests

Academic and professional responsibilities include:

' Teaching trainees and other health care professionals
' Conducting scholarly activities and research
' Participating in administrative duties within the Department of Critical Care Medicine

There may also be an opportunity to assume a Medical Director role based on demonstrated interest and qualifications.

Division and Hospital Information

SickKids is dedicated exclusively to children and their families and is internationally recognized as a leader in pediatric health care, research, and education.

The Division of Cardiac Critical Care currently includes nine physicians and is responsible for comprehensive care of all patients admitted to the Cardiac Critical Care Unit, including those requiring mechanical circulatory support.

Compensation

Salary Range: $298,110 - $425,800 per year (subject to change)

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week plus on-call responsibilities

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
