Looking for a new and exciting opportunity? We are looking for an Assistant Designer, Traction Power to join our team!
This position provides technical support and engineering guidance to relevant staff outside of regular business hours and on weekends.
What You Will Do
Reporting to the Senior Tester, Electrical, you will be responsible for providing technical support in the preparation, analysis, monitoring and co-ordination of new projects or modifications to existing equipment as related to the design and testing of TTC's systems and equipment for the department.
Other responsibilities of your role will include:
- Assisting with the preparation of estimates, material lists, specifications, standards, policies, work methods, test procedures and drawings.
- Conducting engineering analyses, evaluations, tests and drawing conclusions.
- Conducting investigations into electrical, signaling or track problems, and detecting new areas that require engineering attention to improve safety, productivity and cost effectiveness.
- Preparing and reviewing electrical designs and documentation, and assisting with the preparation of drawings, estimates, material lists, specifications, standards, policies, work methods, test procedures and site inspections in accordance with TTC and Industry Design Standards and Codes.
- Reviewing and interpreting drawings and specifications for accuracy and ensure that all detailed factors have been correctly incorporated.
- Assisting with electrical asset management configuration, documentation and control procedures.
- Visiting work sites before the design begins, during the design and construction phases, and during the testing and commissioning phases.
- Independently accessing all TTC properties, construction sites, and track level on a 24hr basis, 7 days a week.
- Collecting data, performing asset/equipment inventory audits and asset identification/labelling.
- Administering the construction, inspection and commissioning of various electrical Capital State of Good Repair replacement and Operating maintenance repair projects.
- Providing engineering guidance to staff and field personnel, troubleshooting operational problems and providing engineering solutions for existing and new electrical systems.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
- Your educational background will consist of the completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e., Electrical Engineering) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- Registration with or working towards PEO status with the Professional Engineers of Ontario is an asset.
- Your application will demonstrate related work experience.
- You will have technical knowledge with Industrial and Commercial Power Systems including switchgear, transformers, lighting, power system distribution, electrical grounding, protection and metering as well as power systems electrical test equipment.
- You will also have knowledge of AC and DC power systems design principles and electrical engineering principles, methods and practices.
- Your proficiency with MicroStation/AutoCAD and other computer applications applicable to the work (i.e., MS Word, Excel, Outlook etc.) will be beneficial in this role.
- You will have sound judgement and well developed technical, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, verbal communication and engineering report writing skills.
- You will also have knowledge of applicable electrical, safety codes/practices/standards.
- You will acquire Subway Rulebook Certification.
