Technologist, Engineering Records Management

Home / Technologist, Engineering Records Management

Return to List

City : Edmonton

Category : Permanent Full Time

Industry : Utilities

Employer : EPCOR

Technologist, Engineering Records Management (Permanent Full-time)

Highlights of the Role

This is a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of engineering, field operations, and data quality. In this role, you’ll play a key part in making sure our engineering records are accurate, up to date, and easy to access, directly supporting safe and reliable operations across our water and wastewater treatment facilities.

You’ll work closely with engineering, operations, maintenance, and project teams, helping ensure records reflect what’s actually in the field — not just what’s on paper.

We welcome applications from both internal and external candidates. EPCOR employees are encouraged to apply using their '@epcor.com' email address to ensure proper consideration of internal seniority.

What You’d Be Responsible For

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain and manage engineering records and plant documentation across sites including Rossdale, E.L. Smith, Reservoirs, and Gold Bar
  • Support and lead initiatives to improve records management systems and processes
  • Verify the accuracy and quality of technical records and drawings, including identifying and resolving gaps or inconsistencies
  • Locate and provide historical engineering records to support operational and project needs
  • Ensure project documentation and drawing turnover meets quality standards before being accepted into the system of record
  • Perform field verification (as-building) of drawings such as P&IDs to confirm accuracy and correct deficiencies
  • Support drafting updates, drawing clean-up, and GIS data improvements
  • Assist with managing 3D scans and point cloud data, including maintaining records and supporting access for stakeholders
  • Support the digitization of physical records, ensuring validity and usability of information
  • Develop, maintain, and improve engineering records management standards and procedures
  • Coordinate and support work related to records improvement initiatives

What We’re Looking For

Education & Experience

  • Two-year Engineering Technology diploma (or related technical program)
  • 5+ years of experience in a plant, industrial, or consulting environment
    • Candidates that do not meet this requirement may be considered for a Developmental Level appointment with at least three (3) related experience.
  • Experience with records management, document control, or engineering records systems
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and the ability to field verify for accuracy
  • Experience with digitization, GIS, or 3D scan/point cloud data is an asset
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • Limited to 6 demerits or less at date of hire (prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file).
  • A Driver Abstract (5 year commercial type) will be required.

Key Skills & Capabilities

  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (P&IDs, single lines, mechanical, loop drawings)
  • Comfortable red-lining and quality checking technical drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on data accuracy and integrity
  • Effective at working independently while managing multiple priorities and timelines
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, maintenance, and projects
  • Highly organized with strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Comfortable working in the field to verify conditions and validate documentation
  • Continuous improvement mindset — always looking for ways to improve processes, systems, and data quality

What Sets You Apart

  • Experience working directly with plant documentation and as-built drawings
  • Strong understanding of how inaccurate records impact operations, safety, and maintenance
  • Experience supporting or leading records cleanup or digitization initiatives
  • Ability to take ownership of work and follow through with minimal supervision
  • Proven ability to identify gaps and drive improvements, not just maintain the status quo

Why This Role Matters

Accurate engineering records are critical to safe operations, effective maintenance, and long-term asset reliability. In this role, you are directly supporting the teams in the field by ensuring the information they rely on is correct, complete, and accessible when it matters most.

How You’ll Work (What Success Looks Like)

You’ll be someone who:

  • Takes ownership of your work and follows through to completion
  • Shows initiative — identifying issues and fixing them without being asked
  • Focuses on continuous improvement rather than maintaining outdated processes
  • Adapts to change and supports evolving systems and priorities
  • Acts with integrity, safety, and accountability in everything you do
  • Works collaboratively and builds strong relationships across teams

What You Can Expect

  • A highly collaborative environment across Engineering, Operations, and Projects
  • A role with both field and office-based work
  • Opportunities to contribute to modernizing records and data practices
  • Work that has real impact on plant safety, reliability, and performance
