The Pursuit Team Manager provides leadership and direction for a team of pursuit and proposal professionals while actively leading complex pursuit efforts in support of the region’s business development objectives. This role requires close partnership with growth leaders, regional business leaders, account teams, and project managers to drive disciplined, client-focused pursuits from early positioning through proposal submission. The position also provides leadership and mentorship to pursuit professionals, promotes best practices, and ensures the efficient delivery of compelling, compliant, and on-time proposals.

The role also includes working with a larger Stantec team of pursuits, marketing, business development, public relations, and communications professionals to build our brand and grow in our markets.

Key responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and mentorship to pursuit team members.
  • Support onboarding, skill development, and performance feedback for pursuit professionals.
  • Promote best practices in proposal strategy, content development, and pursuit management.
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across pursuit and marketing teams.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency, innovation, and areas of improvement on proposal and pursuit development.
  • Manage workload and prioritize efforts of team in alignment with business needs and objectives.

Strategy Support and Implementation

  • Diligently implement Stantec’s business development and pursuit process on opportunities throughout the region.
  • Collaborate with the Growth team, Regional Business Leaders, Sector Leads, Account Managers, Project Managers, and Strategic Pursuits team to develop distinctive value propositions and win themes that clearly differentiate the firm.
  • Leverage Stantec wide network to identify and position unique capabilities, expertise, and resources that strengthen pursuit strategies.

Pursuit Planning & Execution

  • Engage early in the client pursuit process to develop a comprehensive action plan, including due diligence, decision-maker and influencer profiles, competitor analysis, and project-specific win plans (client issues, features, benefits, and proof statements).
  • Support or lead preliminary go/no-go and strategy reviews.
  • Support pursuit teams in pre-RFP activities such as client, competitor, and market research, and identifying and tracking top client capital plans.
  • Actively work with pursuit teams once a specific opportunity is identified but prior to RFP issuance.
  • Develop and document pursuit-specific action plans, including project briefs, win plans, SWOT analyses, executive summaries, and execution team identification.
  • Conduct or facilitate preliminary go/no-go and strategy reviews.
  • Coordinate and lead in-progress reviews, Red Team reviews, pricing reviews, and final quality control.
  • Ensure on-time, compliant, and high-quality submission of all responses.
  • Drive the proposal management and development process across diverse teams toward client-established deadlines and expectations.

Quality, Compliance & Knowledge Sharing

  • Work with pursuit teams to monitor marketing and business development spending and report significant variances.
  • Ensure all pursuit documents comply with corporate branding standards and client confidentiality requirements.
  • Share sales materials, insights, knowledge, and best practices with other pursuit and marketing/business development team members.
