As a Horticulturist, you will be an integral part of a collaborative team focused on delivering seamless services and programs to our clients and customers. If you are looking for a company that is constantly moving forward in pursuit of successful outcomes, get ready to love it here! 

Hours of Work: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week. Day shifts only. 

Internal applications for positions within a bargaining unit must be received within 7 days of this position being posted to have seniority considered. 

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Plan, design, estimate, and interpret drawings and work on renovation, grounds projects, or new equipment installations
  • Winter snow management, and make contact with additional snow removal staff or contractors
  • Winter circle check and deicing, and order sand and ice melters
  • Turf management including grass, cutting, trimming, and applying fertilizer
  • Complete regular scheduled application of weed control, and ensure contractor abides with regulations
  • Fall and spring clean-up of grounds and gardens including sweeping sand from walks and roadways
  • Plan and maintain garden beds
  • Trim trees, brushes, and hedges
  • Operate irrigation systems when required
  • Frequently empty waste containers
  • Service, repair, ad perform preventative maintenance on designated equipment
  • Maintain and make recommendations for replacement as necessary of exterior signs, furniture, and roadway markings
  • Observe and coordinate contracted trades when required
  • Review new work orders, and determine appropriateness of requests
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs may be required
  • Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, meters, power and hand tools 

What we're looking for:

  • Completion of Secondary School
  • 5 years’ of grounds maintenance experience on a large and diverse exterior property
  • Experience operating light and heavy machinery
  • Certificate or Qualification in landscaping and pesticide application
  • Mechanically inclined with experience repairing and maintaining small and large grounds equipment
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints

The starting rate of pay (Step 1) for this position is $29.26 hourly , in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. Progression through the wage steps is governed by the terms of the collective agreement.
