Your Opportunity

Stantec has opportunities for a Senior Regulatory Specialist with environmental assessment and permitting experience in the mining sector. Working with our biological, physical sciences, human environment, and engineering teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading and contributing to environmental assessments and permitting activities. While the focus of this position is the mining sector, there will also be opportunities for involvement in projects across different sectors, including ports and marine, transportation and infrastructure, oil and gas, and/or power.

This role can be located in Burnaby, Kelowna, Victoria, Sidney, Prince George, Kamloops or Terrace, British Columbia or Whitehorse, Yukon.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Managing multidisciplinary teams to deliver environmental assessments and permit applications
  • Leading and contributing to proposals (strategy, schedule and budget development and management) and client engagement activities (conferences, workshops, and other networking opportunities)
  • Providing clients and project teams with advice on regulatory and technical issues
  • Implementing Stantec’s quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures on all project deliverables
  • Promoting a strong health and safety culture and actively participating in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment Program
  • Mentoring junior and intermediate staff

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong experience with federal and provincial environmental legislation that is applicable to major projects in British Columbia, with a particular focus on the mining sector
  • Client-focused, positive attitude with demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Indigenous and public engagement experience
  • Practical knowledge of environmental mitigation and best management practices
  • Ability to coordinate technical professionals, including an understanding of requirements and obligations under BC’s Professional Governance Act
  • Strong project schedule and financial management skills
  • Keen interest in building effective networks, interacting with clients, and fostering long-term relationships that contribute to our business
  • Committed to providing quality deliverables in a timely manner
  • A passion for excellence
  • Ability to work in a team setting, accept responsibility and meet deadlines

Education and Experience

Bachelor or graduate degree in an environmental, physical science, or engineering related discipline.

At least ten (10) years of experience focusing on environmental assessment and permitting for major projects.

Holds, or is eligible to obtain, a recognized professional designation in British Columbia, such as R.P.Bio., P.Eng., P.Geo., or P.Ag, is an asset.

Possess a valid Driver’s License.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Potential for a hybrid approach for the office working environment. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range:

• Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$115,700.00 - $173,600.00 Annually

• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$122,600.00 - $184,000.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
