A career as a Technical advisor within the Legal Documentation – Capital Markets team at National Bank means acting as a key contributor in providing legal support for capital markets transactions and operations. This role allows you to make a tangible impact on the Bank’s activities and those of its subsidiaries through your legal knowledge, strong organizational skills, and ability to thrive in a demanding and stimulating transactional environment.

In addition, you will be directly involved in the management and implementation of transactional financial contracts, while working closely with both internal and external partners. If you enjoy managing a variety of files, contributing to operational efficiency, and deepening your legal expertise, this role is for you.

Your role
  • Support the drafting, updating, negotiation, and organization of legal documentation related to capital markets transactions, ensuring regulatory compliance and adherence to industry standards.
  • Coordinate transactional activities with internal legal advisors, front‑office teams (business lines), operations, and clients, from transaction initiation through closing.
  • Ensure the follow‑up, execution, archiving, and rigorous maintenance of contracts, agreements, and legal documents on a daily basis as well as for special projects, while keeping records up to date.
  • Conduct legal research, perform document reviews, and contribute to due diligence exercises related to financial transactions.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments to support alignment of capital markets activities with applicable requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement by identifying opportunities to optimize workflows and operational efficiency within the legal department.
Your team
Within the Legal Documentation – Capital Markets sector, you are part of a team composed of several lawyers and another technical advisor. The team collaborates daily with partners located in Montréal, Toronto, Calgary, New York, Dublin, London, and Hong Kong. You report to the Senior Director, Legal Documentation, and work in an environment recognized for its expertise, collaboration, and international exposure.

Prerequisites
  • College diploma (professional or pre‑university) or Legal Techniques, with two years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of or strong interest in derivatives and other products traded in financial markets.
  • Hands‑on experience managing legal documentation and contracts in a transactional environment, including commercial financing and business or corporate law.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word and Excel.
  • Experience working in a high‑volume transactional environment with multiple competing priorities.
