Adecco is currently hiring a full-time experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to support a portfolio of large capital projects for our client in Calgary, AB. In this high‑impact role, you will provide technical oversight to the Engineering Service Provider, ensuring mechanical designs are robust, compliant, and fully aligned with company standards, specifications, and industry best practices.

This position is ideal for a senior engineering professional with deep expertise in mechanical systems for oil & gas, petrochemical, and energy facilities, and who excels in technical leadership, design assurance, and cross‑functional collaboration.

  • Location: Calgary, AB

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday | 40hrs/week

  • Job type: Temporary | Full-time

Responsibilities:

Technical Oversight & Design Assurance

  • Interpret and apply company standards, procedures, and engineering specifications to project designs.

  • Provide discipline‑specific technical guidance and resolve complex mechanical engineering issues.

  • Ensure designs are fit‑for‑purpose and aligned with project objectives and operational requirements.

  • Lead Value Improvement initiatives, including capital cost optimization and innovation-driven design enhancements.

  • Conduct focused design reviews, squad checks, and technical audits to ensure design integrity.

Cross‑Functional Interface & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for company stakeholders including Operations, Maintenance & Reliability, and other functional groups.

  • Participate in integrated review sessions, including model reviews, P&ID reviews, HAZOPs/PHAs, constructability reviews, vendor meetings, and Value Improvement workshops.

  • Review and approve engineering change management documents, such as Technical Deviations and Project Decision Notices.

Procurement & Vendor Support

  • Coordinate with discipline specialists to support procurement strategy development.

  • Contribute to Value Improvement Assessments involving vendor proposal reviews and risk assessments.

  • Support contractor and vendor pre‑qualification activities, ensuring alignment with local preferences and approved supplier lists.

  • Review critical Material Requisitions (MRs) and Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs) for compliance and completeness.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in the province of Alberta (required).

  • Minimum 20 years of experience supporting large‑scale capital projects in oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial facilities.

  • Strong working knowledge of industry standards including ASME, API, and other applicable codes.

  • Experience with both static and rotating equipment.

  • Previous experience providing technical oversight on the owner/operator side is an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with engineering service providers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

  • Must be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada
