The Opportunity

 

McMaster University Hospitality Services is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Chef Manager, Operations to help lead culinary and operational excellence within our campus food service outlets. This role is ideal for a hands-on culinary leader who is passionate about food quality, team development, and efficient operations in a high-volume environment.


 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support daily culinary and operational activities
  • Ensure high standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation
  • Manage food and labour costs to meet budgeted targets
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment
  • Ensure compliance with Hospitality Services policies and Ontario Health & Safety standards
  • Coach, train, and develop culinary team members
  • Support a positive team culture and excellent guest experience
  • Manage financials and adhere to established accounting standards

 

What You Bring

  • Minimum 2 years of culinary management experience in a restaurant, hotel, or university environment
  • Red Seal Certification is an asset and strongly preferred
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Experience managing food costs, labour, and kitchen operations
  • Proficiency with POS systems and basic computer applications
