The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Senior Specialist, Underground Mineral Reserves to join our Mineral reserves team in Sudbury, Ontario.
This is a permanent position.
As a Senior Specialist, Underground Mineral Reserves you will play a pivotal role in the development, estimation, and reporting of mineral reserves for Vale Base Metals. This position requires advising technical teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing strategic guidance to optimize resource extraction and management. The role involves overseeing MRMR governance, coordinating technical assurance programs, managing risks, and maintaining a secure database for mineral resources and reserves. The advisor also leads MRMR activities, assists in internal and external audits, and ensures accurate and compliant reporting, which has significant implications for the company's value and reputation
In this position you will:
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to support Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves (MRMR) governance, reporting, and disclosure. Develop and maintain standardized internal reporting policies and processes, ensuring transparency and compliance with internal and external regulations.
- Coordinate the Technical Assurance program to review MRMR, identifying and communicating risks and opportunities. Conduct and facilitate internal and external MRMR audits to ensure compliance with established processes and procedures.
- Establish and enforce mining and MRMR standards and guidelines across operations and projects. Develop, maintain, and communicate guidelines and standards for mineral reserve and resource estimation and reporting.
- Manage the full set of risks associated with mineral resources and reserves. Maintain Resource Management risk registers for Base Metals using technical, regulatory, and short-term cash flow criteria.
- Provide expert technical input and reviews for reserve evaluation, reports, and project assessments. Oversee impairment and value-added analysis as part of the technical review activity. Act as a senior review assurance provider for mining and reserve estimation.
- Lead and provide strategic direction for MRMR activities, including setting business expectations and processes for the estimation, reporting, and disclosure of mineral resources and reserves. Align MRMR activities with the company's business objectives and long-term goals.
- Oversee the compilation, updating, and communication of consolidated mineral inventory, resource, and reserve estimates, including associated risks and opportunities. Assist to prepare and certify the annual Corporate MRMR Statement and validate mineral reserve estimates for inclusion in the Vale annual 20F filing.
- Oversee Vale Base Metals' central secure database for Mineral Resources and Reserves, ensuring data integrity, security, and accessibility for accurate reporting and strategic planning.
- Oversee the preparation and review of technical report summaries for each of Vale Base Metals operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
- Approve and provide input into public and third-party disclosures related to Vale Base Metals mineral resource and reserve estimates.
- Review technical procedures impacting mineral reserve, resource, and exploration target estimation and reporting, recommending changes and best practices where appropriate.

About You
Education:
- Bachelor degree in Mining
- P. Eng (Canada) or CREA (Brazil)
Experience:
- 15+ years of post P.Eng experience
Skills
- Deep understanding of mining engineering principles and practices, with focus in underground operations and preferred experience in open pit operations.
- Familiarity with different types of commodities and mining settings, enhancing adaptability and expertise.
- Ability to act as a Qualified Person for mineral reserve and resources reporting (Cu, Ni and polymetallic mineralization)., ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations such as S-K 1300, NI 43-101, and standards such as CRIRSCO and CIM, ensuring adherence to industry norms.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately estimate and report mineral reserves, contributing to reliable and transparent disclosures.
- Ability to analyze complex data, identify issues, and develop effective solutions.
- Capability to lead teams, provide strategic direction, and align MRMR activities with business objectives.
- Proficiency in conveying technical information clearly and training team members effectively.
- Commitment to accuracy, thoroughness, and ethical conduct in all aspects of the role.
- Ability to adjust to changing industry conditions and requirements, maintaining effectiveness in a dynamic environment.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Expertise in coordinating technical assurance programs and managing risks associated with mineral resources and reserves.
- Skills in managing secure databases for MRMR, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
