JOB SUMMARY

The primary focus of the Research Assistant is in reviewing the charts, completing the Case report Forms (CRF's) and electronic data entry for the Neurology studies, especially studies about neuromuscular diseases in children. Exceptional organizational skills, as well as a high degree of motivation, enthusiasm, and initiative will enable the Research Assistant to focus the direction of activities within the Division of Pediatric Neurology.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS

Reports to the Principal Investigator and Research Director. Works with the Principal Investigator, the research director, nurses, and clerical staff.

WORK PERFORMED

-Reviews charts
-Completes Case Report Forms
-Designs spread-sheets and enters data
-Maintaining and organizing the study patient log, case report forms and other important project related files
-Call families of enrolled patients to arrange follow-up visits
-Ensures that the studies are performed according to ethical guidelines and GCP
-Maintains appropriate regulatory documentation
-Reports on Adverse Events and Serious Adverse Events using the appropriate modes of communication and documentation
-Reviews data results with principal investigators

CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR

The Research Assistant is required to conduct the research activities in an ethical manner. Any procedures or data recorded as part of a trial must be accurate and must accurately reflect the work performed. Strict confidentiality of all study participants must be adhered too. All activities involving participants are accountable to the Research Director, Principal Investigator, the Division Head, and the Research Assistant's governing professional organization.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Most of the work will be done independently; however, the Principal Investigator(s) and the Research Director supervise all projects.

SUPERVISION GIVEN

May distribute work assignments to employees at lower classification levels and initiate new employees into routines, procedures and operation of equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

-High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

-Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.

-Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Undergraduate degree preferred. Exceptional communication and organizational skills. Good computer literacy required (i.e. MSWord, Excel, Access). Ability to work with minimal supervision.
