Reporting to the Academic Strategy and Operations Manager, in the School of Manufacturing & Automation, the position is responsible for supervising the day-to-day maintenance and operations of our lab/shop spaces.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing, Inventory & Materials Management (Primary Focus)
- Lead purchasing for shop supplies, consumables, PPE, tools, equipment, and replacement parts required for daily training operations.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure materials and tooling are replenished in a timely manner.
- Oversee shipping and receiving for the program area.
- Prepare and process inventory transfer, disposal, and asset‑tracking documentation.
- Ensure storage, materials, and supply areas remain organized, safe, and well‑maintained.
Equipment & Facility Coordination
- Coordinate and track equipment maintenance and repairs to ensure tools and machines remain safe and operational.
- Support capital purchasing processes, including gathering vendor quotes and collaborating with Purchasing.
- Assist with the development and upkeep of training aids that support instructional needs.
- Work with instructors and leadership to ensure operational setup aligns with curriculum requirements.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Support day‑to‑day coordination within the shop/lab area, ensuring smooth communication and workflow.
- Assist with scheduling considerations, absence requests, and vacation‑coverage planning to maintain operational continuity.
- Act as the program point of contact during summer months and provide coverage for other Tech Supervisors as needed.
- Support onboarding of new staff by sharing procedures, expectations, and safety practices.
Financial Responsibilities
- Monitor and track non‑staff operational expenditures.
- Maintain and use a procurement card responsibly, including accurate reconciliation and coding.
Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Lead the safety committee for the Construction Trades Tech Services department.
- Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with NAIT policies and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, adopt new tools or technology, and enhance efficiency within the shops.

Qualifications:
- Completion of grade twelve
- Related post secondary education
- Minimum 5 years experience
- Experience in Wood Trades, such as carpentry, joinery, or cabinetmaking—is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with construction practices and materials handling would be considered an asset.
- Class 5 drivers license required. NOTE: department may service other programs at multiple campuses, travel is required.
- Equivalencies may be considered.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).
Remuneration: $71,863.48 - $96,641.22 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Technologist IV).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
