Commitment to Diversity
At Hootsuite, our purpose is to champion the power of human connection, and we know that connection is at the heart of inclusion. Our guiding principles speak to how we Step Up to be an ally for people who are underrepresented or excluded, all while being supportive to the communities where our peeps and customers live and work. We are building a diverse, inclusive, results-oriented culture—one that encourages people to be who they are and bring their true selves to work, that honours an environment where all employees feel like they belong and have the opportunity to excel. Real connection begins with learning about each other. Through our partners like Pride at Work Canada, we seek to learn and address the challenges faced by underrepresented groups. Their support also increases our pipeline of diverse talent, provides an opportunity to expand our network, and helps our leaders build diverse teams where everyone feels engaged and included. Growing up in a small town, I often hid parts of myself to fit in. As a bisexual woman, I feared the stigma, the assumptions, and being reduced to a label.
Even with a loving and supportive family, coming out (both privately and professionally) was something I delayed for years.
That changed after some years at Hootsuite. Seeing senior leaders at our company proudly and unapologetically 'out' gave me permission to imagine a future where I didn’t have to compromise who I was to lead or be successful. It showed me that representation matters.
Today, as the Executive Sponsor of our Proud & Co. ERG (our 2SLGBTQIA+ ERG), I see it as my privilege to continue raising visibility, challenging bias, and helping create an environment where everyone feels safe, seen, and celebrated. The way people are treated has an impact on people's performance; a person's sexual orientation or gender identity does not. Psychological safety isn’t a perk, it’s foundational to innovation, belonging, and well-being. I'm grateful to work in a company that is so inclusive, not just in words but in action.
My message? Live authentically. Find your people and a company that values equality, diversity and inclusion. The journey toward equity isn’t over: but we’re rewriting the story together. #BeTheChange
