In this role, you will :
- Establish, perform, monitor and report radiographic investigations and services required for the clinical management as per medical order.
- Ensure the quality and safety of all radiographic services by providing these services in accordance with national standards and regulations.
- Be available and flexible for assigned shifts throughout the deployments.
- Actively participate in planning, delivering, monitoring of radiography services as requested by the partner.
- Liaise as necessary with local health authorities and other healthcare providers.
- Operate, and ensure the safe and correct use and function of the radiography equipment.
- Ensures all documentation meets local legal requirements of the partner.
- Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team in order to promote efficient patient care and maintain channels of communication during deployment.
- Complete the appropriate CRC Learning Pathway required for deployment.
- Complete Site-Specific Training as outlined / required by the partner.
- Ensure all certifications / licensures / resume are current.
- Ensure current professional indemnity coverage.
- Adhere to any prerequisite medical requirements.
What we are looking for :
- Minimum 3 years professional experience in medical radiation technology.
- Previous experience in a radiology department that uses hard copy films and analogue equipment.
- Experience in monitoring equipment performance and conducting basic verification and quality control checks on radiographic equipment.
- Experience with a portable X-Ray machine.
- Academic qualification in Medical Radiation Technology.
- Current Professional Registration (registered and in good standing) in Canada.
- Professional certification or post-graduate qualification in trauma/emergency radiation technology, humanitarian affairs or other relevant fields is preferred.
- Fluency in English is required, French is an asset.
- Availability to deploy on short notice and on unaccompanied missions of 2-4 weeks.
- Experience working in an emergency context.
- Skills in training, facilitation, coaching and development of staff and volunteers.
Working conditions :
- Difficult and demanding -both physically and psychologically- working conditions are expected.
- Due to dynamic nature of an emergency and proximity to epidemic/ pandemic affected area, issues with access and mobility and strict protocols and procedures.
- Possible long hours of work in demanding context with limited resources
- Potential for exposure to communicable disease (TB, Covid, etc.), bodily fluid, and hazardous materials that can result in potential health risks to the incumbent.
- Living conditions vary by deployment. When deployed to remote, northern nursing stations, the following can be expected: very basic living conditions including group living and shared accommodations ,potential for placement in community with non-potable water, potential for placement in community with water shortages and/or frozen plumbing for days at a time.
- If requested by CRC clinical support team, must complete any pre or post deployment screening ( i.e.. TB screening, Covid testing)
- Must ensure all prescription medications are up to date and supply will be sufficient for duration of deployment.
- A valid provincial driver’s licence is required.
- As a health care provider, you may be required to provide a health attestation regarding vaccination history depending on deployment/partner requests.
- As we work with and support people (managers, colleagues, beneficiaries/customers, volunteers, donors and external partners) and communities in Canada and around the world, applicants whose first language is not English may be required to perform the responsibilities of the role in English.
