The Sports Information Assistant will work directly with the Sports Information, Media & Marketing Coordinator to support the Athletics and Recreation Department in all marketing and communications initiatives. Responsibilities will include communications, digital content creation, updating social media channels, day-to-day maintenance and updates of the Mountaineers website, and media coverage support during varsity game day operations.
What you’ll be doing:
Digital Content Creation
- Graphic Design – including but not limited to game day posts, final score posts and athletes of the week posts
- Photography – capturing images of Mohawk games and other events
- Videography – creating highlight reels, student spotlights and themed videos
Social Media
- Posting of weekly content – game day, final score, game updates, etc.
- Keeping track of social media data and monitoring comments
Game Day Support
- Acting as liaison between Athletics & Broadcast
- Support score/statistics table
- Guides student sports information staff
Communications & Website Support
- Providing written content to the website, including but not limited to game recaps and athlete spotlight stories
- Producing press releases to be sent to media as well as established relationships with local media
Other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- 2-year Diploma/Degree in Digital Media, Marketing and Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Sport and Event Marketing, Broadcasting or a related field.
- 1 year of experience working in an Athletics Department assisting with media relations, sports or athletic administration, digital and social media management, is considered an asset.
- Computer skills and experience - Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and After Effects, as well as MS Office Suite
- High degree of social media knowledge
- Experience with website platforms Prestosports and Sidearm Sports
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Skills in photography and videography
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
