PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Sr. Automation Specialist will be highly skilled and experienced in the automation of IT Infrastructure processes and services. The ideal candidate will be responsible for crafting, developing, and implementing automation solution to improve the efficiency and reliability of IT operations. This role requires a deep understanding of automation tools, scripting languages, and IT Infrastructure processes and services. The Sr. Automation Specialist will foster a positive culture and high performing team, demonstrating proficiency in both independent and collaborative work. Provides mentorship, tackles complex problems, and brings new perspectives to existing solutions. Leads projects of moderate scope, risks, and resource requirements, serving as a valuable resource for colleagues with less experience. Develops and manages operational initiatives to drive tactical results. This position participates in audits and regulatory reviews that are conducted within assigned support areas.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Design and Develop Automation Solutions: Build and implement automated workflows and scripts to streamline IT processes
- Ensure the reliability and performance of existing automation systems, making improvements as needed
- Work closely with IT, development, and operations teams to identify automation opportunities and requirements
- Proactively monitor automation system and resolve issues that arise
- Document automation processes and deliver training to team members on new automation tools and techniques.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in automation technologies and standard methodologies.
- Communicates regularly with team members and other IS teams to coordinate and manage Automation related activities and overall Automation processes and governance
- Communicates with higher levels of management to convey information regarding challenges, planned outages, issues requiring assistance
- Communicates with software vendors regarding support questions and concerns
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- 7-10 years of experience in IT Automation or a related field, involved in the development and support of IT Infrastructure automation workflows and processes.
- 4-6 years proficiency with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef), scripting languages (e.g., python, PowerShell) and IT Infrastructure.
- Understanding of current automation solutions, high availability architectures, open source solutions is required
- Preferred 4-6 years of experience in project management or business or systems analysis.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Automation Professional, ITIL) are a plus.
- Experience working with, crafting, and supporting automated workflows and processes using BMC Automation Suite of tools is a plus

Management Conductor Program:
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
