This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager Taxation.
As part of the Finance Team, reporting to the Director Taxation, you will be part of a collaborative team that is highly regarded by the business. You will be able to participate in complex and interesting tax matters, including working on new and unique long-term initiatives for OPG.
The Taxation department at OPG fulfils an important role responsible for corporate and commodity taxes. Its functions include reporting, compliance, advice, participation in revenue requirement submissions to regulatory authorities, tax incentives, planning for acquisitions and dispositions, and tax structuring for pension and nuclear fund investments.
The Taxation department is a key contributor and partner in all of OPG’s initiatives. In addition to reporting and compliance, Taxation is involved in growth projects, international tax, business planning, tax structuring for OPG’s pension and nuclear funds, regulated rate applications and commodity taxes.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide tax advice to business units on income tax matters and contracts review.
- Provide tax-related support to business units concerning planning for major capital projects, including new builds, refurbishing existing facilities including impacts of investment tax credits.
- Monitor developments relating to tax incentives, accelerated depreciation for tax, and other industry-related incentives. Assist with other functions within Taxation, such as revenue requirement calculations for contracted assets, regulatory finance, employee benefits taxation, US tax issues and special projects as required.
- Assist with the ongoing development of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Canadian tax requirements.
- Stay current with developments in the tax area, especially ones that impact OPG. Determine and assist with communicating the impact of changes in income tax legislation on the business.
- Develop and maintain relationships and contacts within the external tax community to be aware of new and up-to-date tax information.
- Provide mentoring and support to the tax staff.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field and equivalent practical experience.
- Professional designation (CPA), with levels I and II of the tax-in-depth courses completed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 7-10 years of progressive experience in auditing and tax.
- Minimum five years of experience working in the tax department of a large organization and/or experience working for a public accounting firm in the tax practice at a senior level.
- Minimum two years’ experience in a people leader position.
- Requires advanced knowledge of tax and accounting concepts, applying and researching Canadian tax legislation, regulations, principles and practices.
- Requires experience in tax provisions and tax compliance, including preparation and review of corporate tax returns.
- Exposure to US GAAP and IFRS preferred.
- Exposure to commodity tax is an asset.
- Ability to convey complex concepts in an audience-appropriate manner.
- Sound critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Sense of urgency and decision-making skills conducive to managing priorities and meeting internal and external timelines.
- A results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment and effectively manage several projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience in maintaining productive relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence and communicate effectively across the company and externally at all levels.
- Quick learner, ability to navigate organization and support systems to deliver results.
- Experience and exposure from working in/for highly regulated industries such as utilities, energy, power, mining, oil, gas, manufacturing, telecommunications or financial services is preferred.
